  1. If you want to see how far you can take these kind of kits (and for some inspiration), you should take a look at Night Shift on Youtube. I'm not really interested in the subjects he paints mostly (tanks) but find his videos helpful and inspirational to watch.
  2. That's why I used some filler pieces of balsa. I also had trouble visualizing it properly. But by using fillers, you can sand it into the right shape more easily, and you can feel and see more clearly how the planking should flow. I also found Chuck's Winchelsea build log very helpful (and also the people who worked on it, such as glbarlow). They have some pretty good close-ups of their stern, which can give you a better idea of what it should look like.
  3. Welcome! 🎉
  4. You have once again delivered a beautiful model B.E. Very well done! 👏 And your build logs are always helpful and a joy to read
  5. That bow area looks really nice, can't wait to see James put some colors on that! Also the rendering is really pretty 👏
  6. Great start with a beautiful kit, and indeed, the size difference compared to the Alert is enormous! I didn't expect that. Wish you all the best with this one!👌
  7. Looking good KurtH! I'm also working on these now, i've decided to leave them naturel because of the unpainted hull that I have. But this black version looks really nice on your hull 👌
  8. Thanks for the generous compliment B.E., and nice to hear it's the right color 😁. Your Sphinx is an inspiration for me so with some decisions I always look also how you did it, and noticed that you also chose black 👍
  9. Thanks Thukydides! Yes, sometimes a slight deviation in color compared to the original is not so bad, as long as it doesn't get out of hand Thanks everyone else for the likes! Really appreciate it! 🙏
  10. That looks really cool! Must be a lot of work 😮 Never seen it this way, curious how it works out for you
  11. Small update: Not a big update, but it does feel like a big step/relief to have this finished.😆 I've had some stressful weeks, and fiddling with small brass pins and such felt almost impossible, haha. I took many breaks from working on the model, but now I've finally finished the rudder with all the straps, horseshoe plates, and fish plates. The pics below are self-explanatory. I also extended the straps on the hull to the back of the sternpost with a piece of black paper. So that it looks like the straps go around the sternpost again. I chose to keep the horseshoe and fish plates black instead of the recommended copper color in the manual. I think the copper looks great on a white hull, but I thought black would look better on a natural hull.
