  1. Well, you can try and at least be a useful idiot.
  2. Use the woody parts of your shrub trimmings, especially azaleas. Nice logs, etc.
  3. Jack, that turned out great. Nice job. Woodland Scenics uses ground foams colored in differing shades and grinds. You can do grasses, tree leaves, bare ground, water features, whatever you can scheme up. There are several companies making trees and shrubs, Again, let your imagination work. Best thing is to try and find a real brick and mortar railroad hobby shop to browse. Sometimes Hobbytown has a decent scenery section. Or see if there are train shows in your area. They usually get in a bunch of vendors and you can browse there, too.
  4. Nice present, Craig. She'll be a big 'un.
  5. Yep, we have roads like those with 30-35 MPH posted limits. I can run most at about 45-50 MPH. The really twisty ones need a really good sportscar to drive properly. My Ford doesn't quite fit that requirement.
  6. Very nice job, Grant. The details are tremendous.
  7. You remember when movies had intermissions? Beep, beep, Eugene the Jeep. Here you go, Popeye. Found it:
  8. OC, seems you've recovered nicely, mate. Good job. 👍
  9. Mark, I heard that, too. Guess their parent company is altering the marketplace for us modelers. Time to try new brands. I see you picked up a bottle of Mission Models paint, an acrylic paint. I watched an hour long video on it's usage. It was all airbrushed, although the first demo was unthinned. I think it can be brush painted; I ordered some to try out. They have a thinner (mostly alcohol per the video maker), which is really an retarder, shown in the second demo. And something called a polyurethane mix for increased durability. Here's 1 review: https://modelpaintsol.com/guides/mission-models-acrylic-paints Here's the Youtube: http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=features&file=view&artid=7401
  10. That's like a Caprese Salad, with the mozzarella and seasoning. Good eats. I do miss the taste of Jersey tomatoes. We get good fresh tomatoes here in season, but they just don't have the flavor. I know folks who "imported" dirst from there to grow their own and still, not the same. Must be the rain.
  11. You don't like tomatoes?? Wow. Love 'em. And yes, fried green tomatoes are tasty. Do you eat stuffed Bell peppers? Or just for salads?
  12. I've only seen a few companies tell you how much weight to add. Most just say to add weight. Tamiya did one better; they included a custom weight for the nose of their 1/48 He-219 Uhu. It's a Luftwaffe Night Fighter with a long fuselage. Pretty hefty weight I must say.
  13. Whew, that was quick! Looks good, Craig.
  14. I'll second that, Denis. Although I might do it in reverse order. The two sided tape or foam-backed tire weights are most likely to stay put. CA is good, unless it gets brittle and the model is handled. Bathtub calk works, too. Do not use solvent type glues (Goo,Ambroid or whatever) to hold weights. They out-gas for a long time and will warp most plastics. I've seen old freight car models fold in half because the glue melted the styrene.
  15. If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, put it in there and run it for a while. You'll be surprised at what may start oozing out.
  16. There is a name for this; it's Advanced Modelers Syndrome (AMS), although that might be the politically correct version. Since this is a family-friendly site, I'll say no more. 😉 My 2 cents; take it for what it's worth. Are we gilding the lily or painting a pig. Ask yourself, will this aftermarket part really enhance your model. Paint masks fall into that category. Some of us need help painting circles or keeping clean canopies (that's me). Cockpit enhancements fall into the category of do I really need it. In 1/72 scale, it can be very hard to see. In 1/48th, more visible and in 1/32, really visible. Are the costs worth the enhancement? Only the builder can make the call. Something that will help is to scour the work for reviews and builds (research). I found out that an F-111 I want to build builds up pretty heavy, so this one reviewer said the metal landing gear available as aftermarket would be a wise purchase. And if you need to keep within a budget, keep it. Do not tick off the Admiral. We want to keep all our members on this board.
  17. Tell me about it. I've been looking for a discontinued Eduard set, checked ebay for nought and found it somewhere in Germany. Shipping was as much as the set cost. Common Sense bailed out days ago.
  18. Did Eduard make a Zoom set for that? They're colored instrument panels and such. Check Scalemates: they show several sets. You'll have to check on availability. You might even find an ejection seat for the Zipper.
  19. Mark, Ringling Brothers parked their trains in the Meadowlands in North Jersey (really swampland, but I grew up near there), unloaded their stuff and rolled into the Lincoln Tunnel and over to Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. It was a sight to behold. Multiple sections of their trains came in to the railroad yards. The route was the reverse of the opening credits of "The Sopranos", an HBO show on the Jersey/New York mafia. Required watching for us Jersey guys with Italian blood, ya know.
  20. Aircraft gray for me. I looked at it long enough. Panels black, surrounds medium gray. 36260, I think, or 36270. Like the color ADC painted their interceptors, etc., except a flat color.
