Here is another video on Bandsaw setup/adjustment that I think is really good.

You can't go wrong with a Sherline. I love mine, and I'm still only a novice when it comes to using it. Just remember that you will likely spend more on attachments/accessories than on the basic machine. But then, that's half the fun really isn't it? And the same will be true regardless of brand.

gjdale reacted to Jim Lad in Guidance, Encouragement, or just a Sanity Check
Rob, model making is an affair of the heart and a journey of discovery. It looks like you've made a pretty good fist of your Constitution, so if your heart says that you really want to try the Morgan, then I'd say go for it.
If you start a build log here you'll not only have your wife to encourage you, but the MSW family as well.

gjdale reacted to CaptainSteve in USS Constitution by CaptainSteve - Model Shipways - 1:76.8 scale
It hath been way too long since CaptainSteve didst update-eth this log. Verily, some o’ Ye may even be a-thinkin’ that he didst chuck-eth in the towel and give-eth up on this build.
“Nothing,” declared Our Hero, stirring from semi-retirement, “couldst be further from the Truth.”
“Indeed-eth,” he were to go on, by way of explanation, “’Tis true that I may ha’ thrown a tantrum or two when me stern timber didst snap-peth. But that couldst easily ha’ been repaired.”
However, ‘twas whilst Our Hero was examining the damage done, a-scratching his head and contemplating his options, that he were to notice something that didst cause-eth him great consternation.
“Forsooth,” he were to begin. “I crap-peth thee not, but I were to discover-eth a most foul emission which I didst maketh.“
A most foul emission, you say, CaptainSteve ?? No surprises there !!
“A most foul O-mission, I didst mean-eth”, Our Hero were to haughtily correct-eth himself. “For, verily, ‘twouldst seem-eth that I didst neglect to work-eth in the curvature across Connie’s sternal regions.”
Indeed, the counter piece which had been made previously (and made-over, and over) were too short and the upright timbers didst result in a flat plane when taken horizontally across the stern. But, upon re-examining the plans and his vast collection of Connie cornucopia, it became clear that this were not to be the case … a slight outward curvature didst exist and was glaringly apparent.
“Besides,“ CaptainSteve didst interdict, if further justification were necessary, “She looks better that way !!”
And, so, yet another do-over were to be in order ... a major one, this time.
“Verily, backward steps were taken …”, Our Hero didst declare-eth.
Thusly, he were to take-eth up his knife and didst remove-eth the timbers a-ready inserted, and he didst return-eth unto the drawing board.
Stay tuned, Dear Reader. An update be imminent …

companionways from boatsdeck down to promenade deck. Here the port side is weather locked, whilst the stb side gives way to the stair leading down
Nils
due to the design (flap back top) it is not necessary to have full standing hight, and also as the stair immediatey leads downwards. Here the "hinges" on the lid are not mounted yet

The funnel is now pretty much complete. There is a gantry to go but I won't put it on till later as well as a ships whistle.
The 150cm spotlight platform is next. The reference has support struts along the entire sides but the metal platform below is too wide so I'll leave good enough alone. The crew quarters whilst a nice addition will not sit flush so I used rivet strips to cover them which will be OK when painted. 8 extra sets of doors were added as well as a couple of hatches and pipes.
and steps over the grill.
Finally how she sits on the superstructure which will be next.

Thanks to Grant, Bob and all those who have pressed the 'like' button. Your encouragement is really appreciated.
Grant - I'm still thinking through the next one, but it will probably be a far more complex project than my past couple of builds.

Hi & back again with more from the Cad - works
The engine is drawn complete, next to do is to transform all the single parts into printable .stl files. I must save the complete Cad-file in the correct store place and then make for every part a new file. This is a lot of work to do, but for now here come the next photos.
The engine with its measure, all measures in 1/10th mm
The engine from the rear side
The engine from the front side, under the round hood sit all the necessary contacts
Best regards, thank you for watching!

Standing rigging on the lower mizzen mast is now mostly complete. This involved doing the shrouds (but not the ratlines at this time), the mizzen stay and blocks for the boom topping lift, gaff topping lift, gaff throat halyard and main topsail braces. All of this was straightforward and proceeded quickly. The only "unusual" feature was the pin rail fitted to the shrouds. As with the other rigging, the deadeyes are from the kit, the blocks and line are from Syren and sizes are taken from AOTS.
I'm now working on the main lower standing rigging.

I got quite a bit of work done at the museum yesterday, but naturally not nearly as much as I hoped to get done. Both booms and the mizzen gaff are now rigged, leaving only the main gaff to rig plus the running stays to set up before I can go on to the final detail.
he detail consists of the flying topmast on the main; cleaning up all the 'Irish pennants" around the boat and finally fixing the standing rigging; rope coils; sidelights; anchor rigging; lifebuoys and footropes on the main mast - the mizzen only has a couple of spars on which the lifebuoys are housed.
I've tried including some 'baggy wrinkle' on the topping lifts as this is a very prominent feature on the photos of the 'Pritt'. After several false starts, I ended up using chenille yarn through which I sewed the lifts. Not a perfect solution, but it looks OK on the model. I may have to experiment further in case I want to do the same on a future model.
Some photos of the current 'state of play' are below.

Thank you for the kind words guys.
The lower backstays are completed so next up was to make the sling and then add the mainstay.
The sling for the lower yard is served its entire length. I used .035 dark brown rope. It has a thimble seized to it with a hook made of 22 gauge wire and eyes formed on each loose end. After determining the length for the loose ends I formed the eyes and you can see how the eyes close up the sling by being inter-twined. I originally thought it would be easier to make the sling off the model. Which it was. BUT there were trade-offs. This meant that I had to unhook all of the blocks on the mast to get it in position. That wasnt too bad BUT afterwards I discovered that the sling wasnt long enough to get around the forward spreader.
This was bad. I either had to cut the sling off and make another one...rigging it in place.....OR, try to carefully remove the forward spreader. I ended up removing the spreader without any damage. BUT I wouldnt recommend this to all the Cheerful builders out there. Best to rig it in place.
The main stay was rigged from .054 dark brown rope. It was served around the masthead only down to about 1/2" below the splice. Thats right....a splice rather than a mouse. This was very common on cutters of the period and appears much more often on contemporary examples than the one or two found with a mouse.
The other end of the stay had the 5-hole deadeye turned into it. The lanyard was rove through it as usual but the loose end was taken up around the stay once and then finally seized to the stay as shown. I used very fine fly-tie thread for this. It finished it off nicely.
Now that the main stay is completed I can go back to all these loose ends at the belaying points and re-tension the lines. After that I will cut off the excess and add rope coils....
Next up....ratlines!!!!!

You mean your little corner! Actually, it isn't yours anymore since your daughter took possession
You can use either acrylic, or oil based often diluted with white spirit. Acrylic dries fast without a retardent, oil based needs a longer time to cure. both have their ad- and disadvantages. A matter of practice and I presume preference ...Im getting a go at acrylic, since I've not worked with it before. I've worked with oil, gouache, water colour, the model oil paints. So far I do like the acrylic, but it has it's limitations, as does any type of paint. You should take into account that wooden boat building is not just about the wood, metal fittings, and cordage, but paint and stains too probably pains to you You'l find a way!
IT is so much easier ...

Grant, that looks awesome and deserves every bit of praise you have received and more. Put her on a shelf and she will be an eye catcher for sure.
I agree with what Keith said though, a little more leveling and she will be a show stopper!
Just my two cents, carry on!

Thanks again for all the kind comments and all of the "likes".
Another mini-update.......
After a further three coats of clear finish, with wet-sanding between coats using 1200 grit paper, I think we are done with the spray-gun at last. I’m quite pleased with the way that it has come up, although the camera can be a little unkind. It looks better to the naked eye! It still needs several hours’ worth of polishing before it’s really done, but here are a few glam shots by way of update.
