Looks good Mike and ever thing looks ship shape, a very pleasant view of her and easy on the eye's. You should be proud of your self with a big pat on the back. A build that we strive for in our own build's.  Gary

Small Saturday update, one more row to go on both sides before the first band of planking is finished. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.

A little  more  progress, lower counter planked, limber strakes installed and orlop deck clamps,I made up the riders and they really  helped with getting things lined up and the deck clamps at the right height.

Thanks to all of you, in this model, unlike the 74-gun vessel, I don't seek absolute perfection, but I try to give a slightly lived-in look, for example, precisely in this construction of the stove, or the brick floor ☺️

Hi Ben. Here is a photo of my Alfred that shows how I did the main partner on her and laid out the forward hatch. Hope that is of some help

    Hi Mark
Good drawing sir but I believe that the helm port transom would have intersected on the forward part of the stern post. Other then that sir I would say your drawing is right on.  Not one of my better views of the stern Mark but should give you at least ideal's about how I approach this on my  stern. Since these photo's, I didn't like my helm port transom and have taken it out. At the same time a few more items may come out and be replaced also. Guess items do have a way of coming back to haunt you untill you just have to change them out. Gary

Thanks everyone for your encouragement!  It is very appreciated.

    I carry on.

Here are the two sets of bollard/hawse timbers spot glued to the stem.  As I previously wrote, the port set seem to be okay, and the starboard set was the trouble.   This set looked like it was going to work out--

However, after removing them, and doing some more rough shaping, I discovered that the second hawse timber out was not okay.   I unglued it, and cut a new one, very oversized, to replace it--

I spot glued this one in place, and rough shaped the assembly--

Though these are FAR from perfect, and still require plenty of fairing, I pray that they are sufficient; though I will not be surprised to find out farther down the line that they have problems!

They will not be permanently glued into place until I have more of the forward framing done.

    Ron

Thanks Jim. It's getting there and am hoping it come's out on the good side. Some time's I just have to push my self to go out to the shop to work on her verse just sitting in the house being a coach potatoe.  You will get there before you know it. Just take your time good sir and as Chuck said it will be a big relief once it's finish, the hull planking that is . Will be watching your build. Being able to look in on the other build's is a big help to myself and other's and for that a big thank you. Gary

Hello good folks. Seems like I have been doing this for every, planking that is. Don't think it's to bad, not perfect, but planking was always the hardest for me when it came to building and planking a hull.  Maybe that's why I stick to building them, plank on frames, with out planking the lower hull.  Figure building Chucks hull gave me a chance to practice this part of the hobby. Not the best but that's ok. After a couple of month's, have manage to get 3 belts per side done, and  now facing what I believe to be the hardest belt to come. Looking at the landing of the counter planks and where the lower planks on the hull meet, will be a big test of getting the planking just right.  A sort of do or die I believe. Hoping that it will come out looking good but will have to wait and see. I have to line this belt off yet, which should be a big help doing it. Still a lot of sanding to do once the last belt is on and finally putting a finish on.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I truly appreciate it along with the offers of help and support. You already are keeping me out of trouble! Sounds like I need to steer clear of using birch plywood for the bulkheads. However, since I have the inventory, I’ll use birch on the bulkhead former. I’ll source a softer plywood for the bulkheads. Appreciate the feedback!

    Best,

After a little break I came back to work on the gallery today.
I didn't manage to get all the angles to match one hundred percent.
But I hope that in the final view it will be enough.

Thanks, chaps, for your kind remarks and likes.

I am indeed looking at my Winnie, JJ,  and wondering what to do with her. There is a bit of me that wants to start again. I feel I'd make a better job if I did and the Winnie, properly built - there is a bit of a mis-match between how I see her in my mind's eye and how she comes out - is a truly lovely model. I guess thats the frustrating thing that all but the very best model builders must feel.

Anyway, Cheerful is coming along and I'm learning new skills and adding experience and knowledge along the way (and adding usefully to my toolbox). One day, I hope, I'll make the model I'm truly proud of. It may be Winnie 3.

I've completed 3 guns more or less. Only 9 to go. 2 is as much as I can manage in a day.

    Best wishes all
    Fred

Thank you Gentlmen for your very kind words which I warmly appreciate.

I'm nearly done with the woodwork and metal work: soon I can turn to the rigging.

The carronade carriages are assembled, painted and ready to rig. I tried painting the brass barrels, blackening them and blackening and lightly buffing them with wire wool and decided I preferred the blackened and buffed look.

The backstays are done and ready to fit.

The elm tree pumps are likewise done and ready to pin and glue to the deck. I can see I made a small error. The outlet pipe and pump handle should be a little closer together: say seperated by one face of the octagon rather than three. It means a small compromise. If I angle the handle out as shown on the plan the outlet would discharge onto the grating. In the result I have to position the pumps further apart than they should be. Its only a small thing and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it . It does show, though, that you have to study the plans like a hawk.

    Here are some pictures.

I hope my next post will feature lots of rope. I'm really looking forward to the rigging.

I wish you all a happy and peaceful New Year.
