Welcome Mike In case you are interested we, (People here in the PNW) also have a very active RC model ship club in the area. I helped found it a little over 40 years ago and it is still very active. It has been only partly active over the last year as many clubs have been with just online meetings and a few fun floats here and there. You may want to contact Robert Osmond, the current president, (And fellow steam modeler) about upcoming events and activities. https://shipmodelers.com/index.html -
I wish that the ships I was interested in building came with the painting research you posted above! The part about the below waterline being painted anti fouling gray instead of a reddish color is something new to me. I wonder how many other British ships were also painted with this gray color?

One small thing that has bugged me since the first picture of the kit showing the seaplane sitting backwards on the stern. It for some reason sets off a "This is wrong" response in my head. I finally had to looks and see if this was the way the plane was carried when on deck. I only found one picture and while not conclusive it looks more "Proper" in my head. https://inchhighguy.wordpress.com/2018/12/08/japanese-seaplane-tender-akitsushima-秋津洲/

I have no idea what kits you have Denis, but you might want to look on Scalemates. Sometimes they have a copy of the latest instructions in PDF format. If so then possibly theirs is in English.

I have no idea if it is a better model or not but Aoshima makes a 1/350 version: https://www.megahobby.com/products/ironclad-ijn-battleship-kongo-super-dreadnought-1944-updated-version-1-350-aoshima.html?utm_source=scalemates&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=marketplace Still not all that inexpensive. You might want to look up the possibility of Hiei, Kirishima, or Haruna as well unless it has to be THE Kongo.

It's again a little more expensive, (What idea that I come up with isn't) but what I did when I was faced with almost 2000 portholes in the Titanic hull was to buy these to get the job done. https://www.lowes.com/pd/BLACK-DECKER-4-Volt-Max-3-8-in-Cordless-Screwdriver-1-Battery-Included-and-Charger-Included/1003094446 https://www.amazon.com/Keyless-Capacity-Cordless-Screwdrivers-45-01401/dp/B08TB6J7Z1/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=mini+drill+chuck&qid=1623427454&sr=8-2 The screw driver runs at about 500 RPM (+-) and the light can come in handy. I also use it as a screwdriver all of the time. The battery last forever before needing a charge I may have bought a different chuck but the one I linked to is pretty much the same thing. It is pretty much a modeling only thing but when used with the screw driver has found it's way into a number of projects over the years. The combination easily drilled all of the portholes in the Titanic hull in about three sittings and used one bit without breaking it.

Was the speed slow enough to drill through the plastic or did it melt through?

Hey, it's your turn. Try running up a bill that covers ALL of the ships of the 1941 ABDA fleet! In two scales in the case of the Houston! Books and plans for them all, plus a couple that also held an interest to me. I am still glad I did though as his work is at the top and some of the stuff I have is no longer available. The PDF plans are kind of interesting as they have a watermarking on them that says they were printed just for me, (My name). Makes me feel a little important when I look at them. The only plans that I have ever bought that were more detailed were the 12 pages of 1/96 plans of the HMS Hood I bought from PC Coker twenty something years ago. Even my plans for the USS Oahu from The Smithsonian are not as detailed.

A bit more expensive but also a few more options if you go direct. I have a number of his books and plans and have never been disappointed. His research seems top notch and one would have to be VERY well versed on the ship to find fault. https://profilemorskie.com/Profile_1a.htm

I have been the complete opposite. Whether it has been aircraft, ships, or race cars, my reference library has been even larger than the subject I was interested in at the time. While I pretty much lost everything in my divorce a little over forty years ago it has still managed to build up to hundreds of books again. Unfortunately since my last move ten years ago, most of them are still in boxes with no place to put them out for quick excess. I not only could use a model room, I could fill a library room as well. I was going to do all those kinds of things when the kids grew up and moved out, but somehow we kept getting new kids and it never happened.

Looks like you are making nice progress Mike and avoiding the dreaded one step forward, two steps back!

You mean you are not going to try your hand at 1/1200? Fantastic work Craig there is no way looking at the pictures that this build is not 1/350 or even bigger!

I think I have used that tactic a couple of times over the years as well. Get it in the door telling the wife that it was for the child and then send them into the other room to watch TV.

I had no idea. Not surprising I suppose, as they are probably ten cents on the dollar compared to a surplus F-86 and like an AK-47 are all over the place. The one I saw certainly drew the crowds attention, and for a vintage aircraft still looked impressive going through it's workout. Not as impressive as the modern A-10s later in the show, but still not bad.

That offering says that it is out of stock. It appears that Ronco posted twice on the same subject, This was my reply to his other post: This says that it is available through a seller in Palermo Italy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303441337868?hash=item46a6835e0c:g:enYAAOSw1nVeGdDa Not completely certain though as looking on their website it is not listed: https://www.modelpa.it/default.asp?cmdString=hms+victory&t9=&t1=&areaAndCategoryCondition=allAreas&cmd=searchProd&bFormSearch=1&cmdSearchOK=Search+for Here is another, located in the US: https://www.ebay.com/itm/373467022640?hash=item56f45e8530:g:YPsAAOSw7GpgMA1W But it does not say that they ship to Italy. You may wish to contact them and see if they would make an exception.

It only happens to your favorite liquids, solvents, paints, and glues. Normally it also only happens when the stores are closed or just plain out of stock!

Congratulations on your beautiful canoe Chris. She looks like she will have many years of making happy memories ahead of her. I agree with the others though, the build is not finished until we see some pictures or movies of her on the water actually being used! Kind of a proof of concept kind of thing.

Possibly this one?

One thing about using the Micro Mark after market. If you don't go to the same level with the rest of the model, there will be a glaring contrast between the super detailed places/fittings and the standard areas of the model. Even with the added PE and work by Greg the Micro Mark threatens to take over.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
