  1. Hi Cristi, Looking good. I have been considering this kit for a couple of years. Just don't know if i want to build such a complex kit. However looking at your log i am getting closer to investing in it. I will follow your build with great interest. Paul
  2. There's this from Cornwall Model Boats. http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/mantua_lathe.html Paul
  3. Hugh, Welcome to MSW. This looks a good kit and will follow along as you build. it looks like there are some good detailed parts to the kit. Paul
  4. Xander, Welcome to MSW. Will follow you on your build. I am looking at getting one of these river boat kits and look forward to seeing how it goes. Paul
  5. Jim, Cracking set of pictures. I like the fact they are watercolours. I like to see the simple parts of a picture that give it meaning. So i look for things like the portholes, masts and rigging that add to the detail and you have them down to a fine art. . The water details are very good. The speed you paint at is unreal. Looking forward to seeing more. Paul
  6. I have this problem with gloss. They tend to be a bit thin. I use Vallejo (not sure on spelling). they are very good. I no longer use gloss I find it better to paint with a mat paint and then varnish. This way I can apply as much or as little varnish depending on the shine I want. If you look at my hull you can see it looks like I have glossed it but I haven't. I do this with all the parts. Paul
  7. Looking great Danny. Looking at the top down picture it is hard to believe that you are building a card model. Will have to look into getting one of these myself. Nice rescue with the boats, Paul
  8. Nice work Danny, and very good tip for doing the railings. Will use that method when required. Paul
  9. Know how that feels, you are just as strange as all of us modellers. Who hasn't done that. As great as this modelling business is there are times when helps to say enough is enough and have a rest. By pure coincidence, I have just done the same. I was adding hand rails and the simplest of tasks was proving frustrating. I persevered with them and started making silly mistakes so will start again next weekend.(I find a week not touching the model helps). Agamemnon is a big kit, lots of work on cannons, but the other kits are also very good as well. as for tools you will be pleasantly surprised how many of those you already have will be ideal for working in wood as well as plastic. You will have the needle files, clamps, scalpels, Etc. and will just need a few extras. Paul
  10. Coming on nicely. If you are thinking wood for your next kit, of those you mentioned the Agamemnon would be my personal choice. Paul
  11. Looking brilliant. Great kit this as are the other Trumpeter kits. Love your attention to detail. So much PE. I am building the USS Missouri alongside my main model from the same kit makers and have lots of PE. I have built other kits with PE but I usually get bored with it and give up half way through as I have with the Prince of Wales and Yamato. On the other hand I can spend hours adding small details on wooden models and never get bored with it. Probably because I know it will take around three years + to build. Paul
  12. Welcome to MSW Jaan, Paul

  14. Jeff, Read through your log. You are having fun aren't you. You have done some brilliant work on saving the odd mishap. Perseverance and patience are what make good wooden ship modellers and you are showing that with this build. Keep up the good work your Victory is looking very good. Paul
  15. Hi Zappto, Cracking job as a first model. Gives you experience to move onto something a bit bigger. It does take a while to build a good wooden kit. I allow at least 3-5 years to complete a model. Paul
  16. What can i say that's not been said Patrick, Brilliant work. The ships boats are so good at that scale. But then so is every part of this incredible build. Looking through your log i like the picture of Shadow's shadow. Reminds me of a still from what i consider a great film, "The final countdown". Your Shadow's shadow looks similar to the silhouette of the USS Nimitz as she moves through the time field. Paul
  17. Welcome to MSW Mike. Paul
  18. I make my own with both sand paper and Emory . That way i can decide on the size and shape i need. I use old scraps of flat wood, Dowling and curved wood. Paul
  19. Good words Michael, Great way to get across how good this forum is. good to see you are going to continue Bryan, looking forward to seeing your build log. Paul
  20. Hi Techsan, I think your build looks very good. Don't start pulling apart and end up regretting it. Continue building. I would like to here your backstory. Good luck with whatever decision you chose. Paul
  21. Welcome aboard Vic, Paul
