Have decided to take a short break from wooden kits and will be building this Revell plastic kit. It is different from most ship kits. Have never seen a container ship kit before so figured it was worth a go. The kit itself is very high quality. There is virtually no flash any where on the parts. Not massively detailed being a container ship. The only real detail is in the ships bridge. Around 70 per cent + of the kit is in the containers. Should look quite colourful when completed. Paul

Sanson completed. Considering how the ships boats started out I am happy with them. Only problem I had was having to tie the tiny blocks and set them in place correctly. They are not great, but not to bad and I can live with how they turned out. Its why I would struggle with a sailing ship, to much rigging and to many blocks to tie off. I made the coils up by pushing them into blu tack. once they where formed I brushed them liberally with diluted crystal clear. this was so much easier to do and once lifted off they leave the indentation of the coil so it is easy to make them the same size.

Nice one Lynn, you are learning all the time. I have been doing this hobby for the better part of 50 years and am still learning. The great thing of a forum like MSW is being able to get help and advice from other members, and building up your skills to a point where you will be able to give advice yourself. You will soon build up a collection of tools once you work out what you need. The one thing I would suggest you might want to add to your list is a Dremmel and attachments. And if you haven't already a good pin vice. Looking forward to following your build. Enjoy the journey. Paul

Bit more done. I knew I was going to have a problem with the covers as I am not good at sewing. So I devised this plan to achieve the finished look. Seems to work out fine. Once I get them tied down they will hopefully look OK. Considering how they started as metal boats I think they look OK. Paul

Well done lraymo, nice job for a first wooden model. At no time did I wonder what your Gender was. We are all the same in my eyes irrespective of race or gender. I have built many models both wood and plastic during my 67 years. And I find these smaller kits far more difficult to build. I find the larger kits are far more easy to build because of the larger scale. I was not sure what a Norwegian pram was so googled it. Looks like a nice introduction to a first model with a mast sail and rigging. Have fun building it and I look forward to your log once you start. Paul

Nearly complete. Just the ships boats and davits to go. According to the parts list and the picture instructions the boats are wooden. They are not they are metal and don't look so good. Went to town on them with the Dremel and after a lot of sanding I should have something better to work with. Other than this stage of the kit the model has been a pleasure to build.

Coming along nicely. Only downside is the ships boats. they don't ruin the model but they are not the best bit of the kit.

I personaly sand it off. Dosen't take long. I use a medium grade sandpaper. Paul -
Build is coming along nicely. The stern is not perfect but I can live with it. I have not double planked as the second planking was ultra thin and only used as hull colour if not painting. I have filled the hull in with a thin coat of wood filler which helps with the painting better.. Bit of touching up on the paintwork and then onto all the finer detailing.

Hello from a newbie with L plates on!
Paul Jarman replied to Pirategirl's topic in New member Introductions
Welcome to MSW Jas, This is a brilliant forum and you have chosen well. Have you decided on a kit? Whichever one you chose good luck. If you do get stuck during the build you will find the members here very helpful. Whichever kit you chose someone will almost certainly be building the same kit. And please do start a build log. Looking forward to seeing your progress in this wonderful hobby. Paul -
Nice looking model, Welcome to MSW, Paul

Up to the planking. Unfortunately the piece that had to bend round the stern snapped. It bent fine when it was soaked and seemed to fit well. But when I fitted it and started to pin it it snapped in three places. It did not snap straight but at diagonals. Should have got a picture to show it. It is hard to explain how bad it was. I have had to build the stern up from the broken bits and add a few bits so it is made up with 6 sections of wood. not come out to bad but not perfect. I could strip it back and start again but that is to much trouble. I am happy with it. As you can see I will be painting the model.
