Thanks for the clips , this is a great movie -
Hello Shawn i am also a noob to wooden ship models and chose the longboat as my first build as well . I expect to be done in the next week . It was a lot more challenging than I had expected but was a fun boat to build and I learned a lot already from both this forum and my mistakes. Hope you start a log so we can follow along Derek

The one I'm looking at is made by dremel and seems it would be handy to hold unit as reklein mentioned . Altduck check amazon they have the one made by dremel for close to same price -

Here is a update on the longboat I have begun rigging and 😮 OMG! It's way harder than I expected lol this is my first wooden model and boat and was looking for a challenge and I got it . I first thought this boat was not going to be much of a challenge, called that wrong 😳 . It has been a fun boat and I have learned a bunch doing it . I know she's not much to look at but being she is my first I will always have a place in my heart for her 😍.I hope to finish her up in the next couple weeks ,and post the final pics . But here is where I am at now thanks for looking Derek

-
Then I mounted the longboat . I had not yet added the artwork to the stern or added the frieze so I did that and painted the bottom . I will need to did another coat tomorrow and mount my bow spirit , gaff and boom

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
