Hi All Sorry I have not posted lately but I have been painting the inside of the house ready to put it on the market for sale. I have had little time to do any work on the Revenge. But I have done some work ha-ha. Cut the bulkheads out. I decided to plank them (not what the book says to do) with 3mm x 0.50mm strips. Applied 3 coats of sanding sealer with a rub down with a 1300 grit pad inbetween coats of sealer. After this has dried I sanded it down again with 3000 grit pad then coated the top part with 4 coats of white paint. Above the windows I was not that bothered with it as I have to put the paper decorations on that part, also below the windows. I have just gave the bottom of the bulkheads a coat of satin varnish (still wet when I took the photos). Denis.

Hi Jesse I said use fine wire wool to rub them down, I said this because wire wool will mold its self round the contour of the cannon. Sand paper will not. Hope this helps you. Denis.

Hi Jesse AI is correct 2-3 coats of thin paint is better than one thick one. But you could have used a sanding sealer, then a rub with some fine wire wool and repeat that twice then apply your paint. Denis.

Hi John Re what type of wood glue to use, that is a hard question to answer. Some model builders like plain old PVA glue from the local hardware store. Others like Titebond as it is very strong and dries faster than other PVA glues, but that is just my opinion and that may not count. Some model builders use a combination of PVA and CA. There is no set rule on what you should or should not use. In the end it is what works for you and you alone. Sorry I cannot help you more than that apart from just take your time and have fun. Remember a mistake is not a failure it is just a learning curve to make us better builders of models. All the best. Denis.

Hi John Re glue, Don is correct , I use Titebond wood glue on the edges of each plank with a spot of thick CA on the frames. I also use bulldog clips to hold the planks together, at the stern and bow I use curved forceps on the planks this is for first planking only ( you have used filler blocks at the bow so you cannot use them ) . Hi John Nice to see you back on your build again. Re your cannon carriages, I take it that it is PVA glue you are using ??. I think you will be better of using 2 part epoxy glue. Don't forget to scratch some of the varnish off on the deck where the wheels touch the deck then put the epoxy glue on. Or you can put a pin in that block, drill a hole in the deck, then put the epoxy on the pin and place it in the hole. Denis.

Hi Ron I agree with you re freight Ie I wanted to get a Proxxon miller, asked for a price from Proxxon New Zealand they wanted $2,500nz. Had a look at the Tool shed in Australia, I think it was just under or just over $700au + P&P and import duty it came to about just over $1,200nz. A bit different to $2,500nz that Proxxon New Zealand wanted. Sorry it is not Tool Shed it is MY TOOL STORE, sorry Dave for putting you wrong. Denis.

Hi all Sorry I am back again. I thought I would show you how the wale's will fit. I have not bent them yet, that will come when I have planked both sides of the hull. Oh dear looking at the photo I have some filling to do ha-ha. Question do I paint below the waterline white or just leave it. If I paint it then I will use the kit wood, if I don't paint it then I will just use my stock wood like I am doing now. Denis.

Hi ALL I have started finish planking part of the hull. The planks have to be sanded back a lot more than I have done so far. The instruction book says plank the hull first then add the wales later on in the build. It also says paint the wales black, but I will use 1x5mm Walnut and varnish them. Hi again Had fun doing the stern planking. Till I had taken the photo, when I sanded it down a bit of the plank came out ha-ha never mind will not take long to fix it. Denis.
