  1. I agree, it gets to be fun running all those lines together..very nice my friend, sails can be complicated but give it a real feeling..thanks for the pictures...enquiring minds want to know..
  2. The breech rings look very good Augie, I'll keep that in mind next time I do cannons. Chuck's cannons would really be hard to beat, what a great upgrade, he does such awesome work.
  3. Thanks Tony things are changing here today some rain and cooler temps. Might have to put on long pants today....lol
  4. The jeers really look good...those are a really neat feature of this ship. I really like how they turned out on my Revell Conny, so I bet it's really fun with the wooden one. Nice
  5. Hmmm dinghy again, however, it's looking good, almost as good as a Leffe, but not really....lol...oh that's right, not supposed to drink a dinghy are ya?....
  6. off to a good start Len. You'll be fairing the bulkheads and filler blocks, just be careful of their placement so you don't have to add to, or take too much off. It just makes it easier to trim and fair.
  7. Looking good Augie. Since they're brass is there a reason you're going to paint them vs. blackening? Just curious.
  8. Hi Augie, already a done deal, just got through hanging them on the ship. I've seen the straps both ways and yes they probably were iron bands.
  9. Looking real nice Len. I'm now following your build also. Please check your PM box. I sent a couple of messages. Also, I'm having trouble using the Picassa web photos. It's probably on my end, but don't know enough about how to use it. Do you have a different format you could use to send them to me if this won't work? Thanks, John
  10. Hello to all who have an interest. Here is an excellent set of pictures that clearly show the anchors. Thanks for all the input.
  11. Hey Augie, Gonna be 82 here today, but that might not last long. Funny, I never paid much attention to the anchors, however, it seems most larger ships used square stocks. Glad you like the tools. Since I'm now a dealer I've really had a good opportunity to appreciate what Proxxon has to offer, and in my opinion they are superior to available lines with the exception of Sherline which I'm offering also.
  12. Hello Sjors, good to see you in the yard. The Morgan had round anchor stocks. There is even some old pictures showing them. I think it is common for American ships of that era. I'll see if I can find a picture to post.
  13. Hi Piet, yes 75 today and in the 80's tomorrow. But cold is coming in a few more days. I might need to think about going furter south for the winter. The hummers left about 10 days ago I guess that should be a hint...
  14. A couple of more pictures. Ah, it was 75 here today, so the lathe got moved outside on my other workshop....I'll hang them and secure them tomorrow. Progress....finally!
  15. Well, as I mentioned the shipyard has been reopened, however, with my other obligations it took a little longer to just get started. Drives me nuts. I can get all the components out and try to start, and something comes up that needs my attention...like now!, so I did get the anchors re-made. This was where I needed to start. I made the stocks by turning them on my trusty Proxxon DB-250 Wood Lathe. That is probably my favorite tool in the line. Then blackened the anchors, stained to wood and added the blackened brass rings on the stocks. They are now ready to hung on the ship and properly secured. First, of I hope many new updates.
  16. Hi Lawrence, I should have updates later today. I'm building the anchors. Thanks for dropping by.
  17. Hi Tim, welcome aboard. Would love to see someone else building a Morgan. When you do, please check out my website, I have a lot of historical information as well as photographs of the restoration, 38th Voyage, and current pictures of how she is rigged right now as a museum. http://www.charleswmorganmodel.com Thanks for stopping by.
  18. Hi Mobbsie, thanks for wanting to keep an Old Salt around for a bit. Yeah, 85% of the people that have one of those don't make it to the hospital. I'm very blessed to be here for sure.
