  1. Yeah Gerald, I'm looking forward to getting the shrouds done. My problem to start will be to figure out how long to make them so that they meet the deadeye correctly and then getting them siezed properly.
  2. That really looks impressive Gerald. Would love to be there to see her. Do all the whaleboats have a blue trim at the top or are they diffferent colors? I'm not sure I've ever seen them all together before?
  3. Hi Mark, yeah, we have the Woodall's/Good Sam Bible. We also look online when we have internet. We're just wingin' it up here and haven't been disapointed yet. That pie sure sounded good! My neighbor here in Crescent City lives in his RV and is a fisherman....yesterday he gave me about 6 filets of Black Snapper....yummm
  4. Hi Dave, when I glued the pinrails to the hull I used regular Testors plastic glue. When I first started tying to them they came loose so I CA'd them to the hull and didn't have any future problems. As for the pins themselves they were so thin that the cement melted them which is why I would drill out and replace them if doing a plastic model again. On mine also the molding was so bad that many of the pins just weren't there as if they never filled up the molds. I also had 2 kits and both were equally as bad.
  5. Hi Dave, glad to hear all is ok in Charleston. If you are referring to using brass pins for the pinrails, from my point of view I would replace them with brass. I had too many of them melt when trying to get the rigging lines taut. I would then have to either put CA on them or move to an adjacent pin or both. It is one thing I would change. Don't know if that meets what you're looking for, just my 2 cents. Tell Fran hi for us....Happy 4th.
  6. Hey Mark, I thought I was the only one that they fire off fireworks on my Birthday. Mine on 3rd, yours on 4th....cool. Happy birthday Bro, I'll bend an elbow tonight in your honor!
  7. Hi Mark, thanks for the info. Mt. Shasta is quite a ways behind us. From Florence we are thinking about going on to Portland, then Seattle before cutting over to Mt Rushmore. We would like to go to Mt. Hood and Ranier and Mt. St Helens. What do you know about Mt Hood? Any campgrounds to recomend. We have a 22' Travel Trailer and like to have full hookups, mostly stay in Good Sam camps.
  8. Thanks for the pictures. I have one of Alexy Domanoff's serving machines. I don't have the rope walk though. In your opinion should I try to make my own rope or is the kit thread good enough. I've never tried to make my own and wonder if it's worth the effort. I don't think I've heard very many comments on this subject, but seems like a lot of the guys do it.
  9. Hi Gerald, thank you so much for posting this build log again. I look forward to watching the progress. I should be back in the shipyard by the end of Sept or Oct. You should be far enough ahead off me to really help me with the rigging. I'll get the missing pictures of mine up, but unfortunately it will be after I get back home. The missing pictures are on my other computer. I do have a flash drive with me that might have them on it, but right now I can't find the drive. Packed somewhre in the RV. I put in quite a few details on the tryworks area. Mostly tools and things to clutter it up. Keep it up. I was making and installing deadeys and chainplates when we left in May. Question, did you use a seizing machine on the lines?
  10. Alright man, thanks for the Birthday Gift......I owe you one Bro! so do a lot of others on here.
  11. Hi Mark, we might be in Oregon next week. Not sure of our route yet, probably up the coast as far as Florence, then across to the mountains. Some 90+ would feel good to this cold Texan!
  12. Hi Gerald, good to hear from you. Are you going to put your log on this forum also? Have you been able to get any more work done on your Morgan?
  13. thanks Grant. glad to hear all is well down there. I'll try to get the log up to date again. Sounds like a painful glitch.
  14. Ahoy Mate, just catching up again. Hope you and Sjors managed to stay out of trouble recently....I didn't see any International Incidents in the news. Take care and I should be back in the shipyard in Sept or Oct.
  15. Hello my friend, thanks for the BD wishes. Just trying to get caught up on all the logs. The floor looks terriffic but should have known....you built it...outstanding and all is looking good.
  16. Ahoy Mate, good to hear from you. thanks for the info. Do I have to edit the page, and reinter the pictures? I'll try to get it updated in the near future as long as I have internet. Been having trouble with that in the woods. Some day you'll get to retire too, just make sure you don't have to depend on Social Security to live on...it sucks worse than I imagined. When I retired, I wasn't worried about it, but with a bad investment it's all I got left. By sharing with Diane, we can survive ok, but if single it is worse than poverty. Take care my friend.
  17. Hi Pat, just getting caught up and see you've had some health issues....take it easy my friend and our prayers are out to you. also, Glad to hear you're feeling better...watch the stress...
  18. Hi Dave, thanks for the BD wishes. I see the storm is not being kind to Charleston. Be safe and hope you do not encounter any damage. Take care, John & Diane
  19. I've just had a chance to go back through the build log, and noticed I'm missing about 5 pages of pictures for some reason. Anyone know why or had problems with their logs? I didn't think we were supposed to lose these again. I sure wish there was a way to back up our logs. I guess while I'm out of the shipyard I'll try to repair. Anyone have suggestions?
  20. Thanks Mike, good to hear from you. Yes it's a beautiful part of the country....great gift for sure..
  21. Hi guys, thanks to all for the birthday wishes. Yes, I'm now an "old salt" among other descriptive adjectives. The big 65 this year. Hard to believe I made it, however, I am glad that my mind hasn't caught up with the ole' bod yet. Currently we are in Crescent City, Ca. just south of the Oregon border. I will say that this is the coldest birthday I've ever had (being from far south Texas) Highs are 59-60 and lows are 49-50. We are nestled among the giant Coastal Redwoods in this campsite. Right next to the RV (four feet away) is a couple of 7-800 year old trees. The Sequoias live to be 2,000 years old and as much as 25 feet in diameter. Magnificent. We saw them in Yosimite. Going to eat myself crazy with Salmon while I'm here...it's excellent. Should be back in the shipyard by then of September or October. Thanks for all the well wishes and when I have internet I try to keep up with you guys. All the ships look great and make me anxious at times to get back to work, but then I look up at the Redwoods and mountains and go.....nahhh not yet. Cheers, and I'll bend an elbow to ya this evening. John
