Gondola by AntonyUK
cog replied to AntonyUK's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1901 - Present Day
Antony, that will do fine, especially if you "redesign" to your needs. I found it looks quite good to work with. SInce I recently got a Byrnes table saw, I can start cutting what I need to build one at a somewhat smaller scale, yours is 1:11.5 You really triggered my curiosity now! -
Since I want to build this kit as a RN version (HMS vs HMCS from the kit) I've been looking into the different assets of the kit. For one the armament for an H class is wrong they deliver 4.5" single guns, whilst all H class have been equiped with the 4.7" single variant which has a sharp bent in the casing vs a roundish one in the 4.5" Guns to order. I'll be getting the quadruple vickers to and need to get 20mm oerlikon's which were installed from 1940 onwards. The kit supplies two aft structure types, so I need to wait for the books to shed some light on which one to use. In the mean time I'll start prepping the hull for painting ...

Denis, try to add the piece of railing with a piece of copper wire from either an electric appliance, or cat 5 (internet) cable. When I see what you did and still do on ships/boats than you cannot get licked by some PE

Jack, build the one you feel comfy with. Perhaps one with average PE ... I used a lot of PE from Musashi/Yamato. Ordered some more generic items e.g AA guns, and some specific. That's what I'll be doing for the h class destroyer too. Dunno how you arr on paints but a rattle can of primer will ease your painting. I switched from airbrush to it ... a blessing. The clours ... I switch between Vallejo and Tamiya Don't listen to much to RGL babbling away when he gets personal ... he's still hanging by his toes ... still, you could do worse for an Aussie ...

Interesting OC. I would need the top view, and the line plan to get that right as well. There is one other detail: Is that a G class or an H class ... they do differ despite the fact they share the same basis. Furthermore, I couldn't find data for it, so I don't know if all were built in the same yard ... can't imagine with the pressure of WWII, did the yard stick exactly to the drawing ... (need for speed)

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
