If you have some dentist tools - the old fashionned - you could try to replicatie the obvious cuts in wood for the standard, the wood needs to be grainless obviously- 993 replies

Not to mention the pieces to go with that piece He never stopped since he started!!! Mainly Greg and me ... or was that cursing ....? Denis, we have a proverb: An accident sits in a small corner ... perhaps your tape is just that corner I didn't tell you this, because I don't want anybody to know, but I can't count the times I've been inspecting the floor on hand and knees with a flashlight in my hands, even with a building lamp on the side to get that damned illusive piece ... especially the brass parts are a pain when they jump, you see them flying one way, and you find them in the opposite direction ... i.e. if you find them at all!!! Nice save mate, but don't cut your efforts short, give the other side a brush of paint as you planned! It's not a competition, We want you to do good!!! Even with an admiral shaking her head ... be glad your little friend doesn't laugh behind his paw ...

IWith a grainy-ish paint you could get the desired effect on smaller scale as well, i.e. to a certain degree- 993 replies

No, I'll definitely make HMS Glowworm, but I'll probably make the kit's intended ship too. Then I only need a Kiwi ship to make the commonwealth series, since I got Vendetta as Aussie representative, maybe Hoff00 can help me on a Kiwi destroyer

Good progress Denis. You could paint the forwar gun dark grey, even both, when you look at the run of your camouflage. I replaced the "peddestal legs" with brass rod. Nice an strong, even at 0.3mm

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!!! ... no pictures. Still waiting on the books I ordered. Got the camouflage book on destroyers, sloops, corvettes, and other smaller vessels. Interesting picsies. I might make a second one of these G & H class's ... or keep on changing the camo until I've got what I like ...

I've used Vallejo varnish, but was advised to use a rattle can. In my build of a Fokker Dr1 I found that Vallejo paints mixed rather easily even after drying(!) so I presume they have a likewise effect when varnished ...

Denis, You can find railings in PE for USN ships, or RN, etc. You can also buy stanchions in PE or metal and thread them yourself (like I did on the O16 build here), and Greg did on Yamato and a few others of his Japanese home fleet. The railing you can do with either very thin copper/brass wire, or thread, e.g. like I used on the Vendetta for the rigging ... you shall certainly work something out to make the Arizona shine, like she should and not be a cheap lookng model

It's always a pain to get the wrong materials, I hope the supplier made the slip, and sent you the wrong one.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
