Carl, traditional foam double sided tape or carpet tape would definitely be too think but there are some transfer tapes that are only 0.002" thick that might work although the scotch tape trick from Bill might work better.

Julie, If you take a pencil and draw where you want the planks to fall on the hull, you can overlay the lined hull with scotch tape. Then transfer the lines to the tape. Once that is done it is simple to peel the tape off the hull and stick it on your wood. Cut to the lines then do final detailed shaping with sandpaper until you get the plank to lay up to the previous one to your satisfaction.
That has worked for me.

If the crack is open a little, a touch of Bondo will fix it.... Good luck with all those ports and pins!

To be honest, I don't think that will be working as the tape will lift the plank from the wood and make it longer then required, or that shouldn't matter much. However, by what I see you do not have a lot of leeway...

Nils,
Astonishing. Your brass work gets better all the time ... They can't complain about ventilation in the engine room. That's certain ...

Interesting book though. I especially wonder if differences will be mentioned between these two giants ...

Thanks for all the visits, and the likes. it continues to be encouraging.
I unmasked the dummy funnel and decided that the "no sew" works well as a mask even after a week the mask was still strong and pliable and peeled off easily. The color of the black is good the tan still needs work.
I have been using the third hand for all sorts of little tasks now. I am very happy that I took the time to make it.
here I used it to solder one of the jump rings back together. after setting everything up I used a tiny brush and put a drop of Duzall flux on the joint and took a .5 x .5mm small flat of solder placed it on the ring then with the hot air soldering gun with low flow air a couple of strokes 15mm away and the solder flowed over the joint
Today I began removing a few of the ports where the most damage to the side of the hull was sustained I used the flush cut nippers to grip and pull out the ports, because these are each unique..... yes indeed unique I placed them in order on some green felt (no I didn't cut it off the billiard table Denis) it only took ten minutes to find the one I dropped one of the pins fell into the waste basket (I found it under the flap of an envelope).
Finally I am putting some primer along the joint I will let it harden for a few days then re-sand and repeat a few times to blend in the crack.

Hi Everyone,
It's been a while (again). I'm sorry for that, but I started my new study at the univerity of Rotterdam Mainport, so I couldn't do a lot. But unfortunatly I had to stop this study. The reason is personal. But this gave me some time to do some moddeling again.
And I started just where we left off last time.
I wasn't quit saticfied about the result of the 1st planking. So I decided to add a second planking. Besides that I finished the construction of the ship, underdeks as well as upperdeks. And here are finally some pictures again;

Hi there, just checked back through my builds - I put the Anti Fouling on Two Months ago so guess it should be completely dry and set by now.

To err on the safe side, the only way I know to test is to spray the clear over a scrap painted with the same paint that's on your hull. Otherwise, you risk some unwanted reaction on your finished model.
It's my guess that a spray acrylic would be safe sprayed over enamel. But I could be wrong. How long has the enamel been on the model? Enamel can take a very long time to thoroughly dry.

thanks for the continued interest my friends. I was hoping I'd have something to report, but my projects took longer than I thought...I even put up the Christmas lights along the roof of the garage. I get to my desk........but besides looking in on the site.and news, I'd end up tinkering with an Adam west Batmobile I have sprawled in front of me {I have already done the Michael Keaton version}. today being a holiday.......nawwwww.......even a holiday doesn't prevent me from tinkering we'll see what I kin git done t'day
oh crap.......another design flaw! I suppose they could enter the sort area by walking over the hold before they opened it Michael.......or climb in from the dump ramps. I guess it would be one more thing, left to the imagination
Carl........your too much
well folks.......best get crack'in! have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Matching the planks where they come together, usually at the bow, is always the hardest part of planking for me. But you're doing a superb job of it.

cog reacted to Modeler12 in Modeler12 carving attempt - Me too; I am willing to try almost anything.
Just in case some of you were wondering; Kralingen, my birthplace, is a district in Rotterdam. Carl also came from Rotterdam, but not as nice a district
Most of the time I was carving these designs with the tip of the #11 blade. I learned very quickly that you don't prey the wood loose, you have to cut and slice or break the tip.
I also strop the blade frequently to keep the tip very sharp. I took an old leather belt and glued it to a piece of scrap wood. Some white chalk and a few strokes back and forth is all it takes.
