Thank you Stephane, for your words, I have a great problem in finding additional display space in my home. For instance the #5 Elbe schooner will have no own case, and will have to share the case of the Zeesboot from time to time, as both models (one at a time) can fit in it. As this is an English speaking forum, please would it be possible for you to correspond in english rather that in French language, so that other members can also follow, thank you regards Nils

Hi Rob, I used 4 mm thick glass panes for all my 9 display cases to date. It is a bit tricky in preventing the panes to tilt during assembly, before the frame can secure, but meantime I gained some experience in handling that quite well. The handicap is that the glass cases are rather heavy, and I finaly need two helping hands from my wife to put and lower down the glass bonnet over the model and on to the case base-plate. Nils

Many thanks Keith, it is already displayed in my little private museum together with 8 other models... The Gorch Fock model had (in lack of place) to be moved upstairs to my attic office Nils

thank you for following the build Johann, I`m pleased you like it. The case for the model is nearly finished

Here some pics of the case building progress.... As my recent 5 Elbe provides nearly the same length and height as the Zeesboot, this case will alternatively suit both models well Nils Glass panes ready for being fitted all corners will be reinforced with brass fittings the bottom frame corners are fitted with ply corners the mid frame gets supports as well. The brass pins fit into all six sleeve sockets to seccure for no movement of the bonnet Zeesboot trial fit standing on the base also the 5 Elbe model will fit into the case this is what the case is actualy made for

Many thanks Keith, I`ve just started to make the glass casing..... Nils it satrts with the base plate and the sides profile the glasser did a good job, the cuts are very precise and the edges well debured the last side to be fitted I saw this little side table offered by Aldi this week. The glass case will stand on it later on

Many thanks Dave for your kind words. The model will be on display in a self made glass case, I`ll see the glasser`s shop tomorrow for the glass panes. Material for the wooden framing is already here. Nils

Hello Matthias, thank you very much. We`re just back from 7 days Baltic coast, but this time unfortunately did`nt have the time to visit the Bodden areas for a ride with a Zeesbboat there. Nils

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
