  1. Decided to solve the error the hard way-massive tappering. Almost done with that side of the hull. Biggest challenge now is to make other side identical...good luck..
  2. Its really hard to reach to those levels (oldtimers as i call them ). My goal is also to have natural finish - also for this Cruiser. At least bow tappering looks pretty ok, now learned hard way about the stern :).
  3. Yeah thats true - trough experience is the way. Final outcome will be visible after sanding.
  4. Some progress with planking. I have messed it up by not tappering at stern and also coming to far with planks. Should have started moving to the middle from keel also. Now the curve it the middle is too big. I guess only way to fix it is to start coming from keel and last filler plank is what it is? Really hoped that this would come out right-guess not this time. Positive part is that now i understand the reason why to mark out plank positions and then you can see where to tapper etc. The ca stains that you see can be sanded off. Did some test and planking looks good after sanding. About deck planking-what would be correct plank legth and formula for this model?
  5. Hi Anyone has ordered new Deagostiny new 1:48 admiralty style Bounty? Hows the quality etc? It seems to be real eyecatcher. 12x80 pounds a month seems quite expensive even with 1st month discount.
  6. Progress. This project is much harder planking wise. When i started it i made agreement with myself that planking must be good... but im happy so far-not th best result but good for 1st proper planking. As Terror had 0,5mm mahagony strips that bent really when then Cruiser has 1mm walnut that is stiff. But i really like the waltnut look even tho every plank is different color. Did my forst drop plank-good job!!! Really happy how it looks. Now when soing these techniques the theoretical part of planking becomes more and more logical. As its 1mm plank i dont worry about some irregularities in surface as sanding will correct it.
  7. Noce work! Totally agree-everything is so fragile... But good thing is that their laser cut sheet have that extra material to cut replacements-guess it was designed like this. Doing Polotsk myself right now and Phoenix is definitely one of my future kits if MK dont come out with something bigger.
  8. New wood from Model-Dockyard arrived-much better. Edges are sharp and not falling apart-good. Started with planking but noticed that stern but will not fit properly. Ingiess i didnt tapper as much as i was supposed to(not every plank). So i got an excuse to rip that old bad wood apart and start again with tappering and better wood. Planks are sitting well now. I taper almost half each plank and i think it goes like that until the mid part. Only thing with new wood is that it has many different colors-photos show that really well. Still decided not to start sorting it. As it will give a vharecter and also sanding will equal it a bit.
  9. Progress. As my ship fell down on stern when sanding the alignment in stern isnt what it should be. Photo etched decoration has lower corners little sticking out etc. thought about possible solutions but didnt have any to make it better so i kept it. To be honest tou probably will notice it if tou dont raise the ship and look from bottom. Railing done. Seems one part should be little more over bulkwark. Have to find a jig for buture build. Laser cut part where rudder comes out....i broke it....agan broke the new one i made also..... How to get little moro color for sanded pear(similar to bulkwarks)-danish oil or varnish will do the trick? interesting is that on the pictures the faults seem worse...they are much better real life
  10. Yes at the moment there isnt any tax. And when shipping its possible to mark it as gift just in case. Are you interested in any of kits?
  11. I think curve at bow is quite small so therefore maybe with planks there it might be difficult. Also due to curve you might need filler pieces to get the radius right.
  12. Progress. 2nd planking sanded-how to get the same color as it was before sanding? Keels done, need sandning. Had to sand of stern keel cause rudder wont fit properly. Today replacement wood for Cruiser arrived and also Terror chainplates(they fit good).
  13. My straight forward question. How would it be possible to get Polotsk or Phoenix in bigger scale? Maybe special order? As i live in Estonia at some point will get Phoenix also from Russia but small scale will challenge my big hands.
  14. Sorry to hear that. Was thinking that it might be future build maybe after tough times. Are there any other good Russian manufacturers?
  15. Didnt know tou were from Russia-nice to meet you! Question do you know kit Eskadra Mercury brig-is it good like MK?
  16. Like promised here are pictures from morning without tapes. Whats the difference between ca and normal super glue?
  17. Hi I have brand new Model Shipways Essex and Confideracy for someone to enjoy the build. Boxes are opened to check the content, otherwise as brand new. Would prefer buyer from EU but will ship anywhere. PM for price etc.
  18. I did glue that.... was think the same but photos showed to do that. I ordered mini rotary tool-pen size that i plan to use there. 2nd planking done and also 2nd layer of wales installed. Really happy with outcome-cant see it totally caused its taped for overnight but will run to check it in the morning. Size comparison with Cruiser-polotsk should be 2 times bigger QUESTION- what is the best glue for photo etched parts glueing(golden brass on picture). Next is sterns illustratiins and i dont want to mess it up.
  19. Thank you JToma! Just looked at topic here "So Where Do You Do Yours Then", showing members workplaces..... It seems im not sick at all or obsessed with model building (at least not yet). Many members have tens and tens (maybe hundred) unstarted kits on selfs. So im good and do not need any medicine for that, atleast not yet .
