Hi all, I would say that safest way to buy true EU boxwood is to buy exact piece not logs. Like many e-shops offer - they have photographed exact piece and then you really see what you get. Buying raw timber so to say is always a risk. There are standardized quality that has been agreed and then there is quality for ship models . Example pearwood i received month ago - 20-30% of that is not suitable for ship models unless its painted . Import fees with transport costs might make it yes quite expensive. Vahur Hobbymill.EU

Hi all, I have one contact that came trough my supplier, who offers European boxwood. He offered airdried logs, at least 5y old, D7-10cm and lengths 80-150cm. He should be located in Germany. Here are also photos. I you are interested them pm and will share his contacts or we can make bigger order to him as a group. Note that i dont have any ties to this supplier and can not vouch for him. If there is request for true boxwood for reasonable amount then also Hobbymill can include it into stock. With best regards, Vahur Hobbymill.EU

Hi all, Hope you are doing well and happy new year! Time for some updates. Hobbymill.EU products now include all following woods: 1) Alaskan yellow cedar 2) Castello boxwood 3) Light swiss pear 4) Dark swiss pear 5) American walnut 6) White hornbeam 7) American holly 8 ) Colored hornbeam: - black - yellow - brown - green - orange - red/pink 9) Beech 10) Cherry Updated base price lists are located here: https://hobbymill.eu/products/woodstrips All those are available as strips, sheets and also wood turning blanks. Note that colored hornbeam has max width of 35-40mm and length 400mm. From mid February I also offer saw blades (only for customers who also buy wood as thats not my main idea) suitable for Byrnes saw without adapter. Blades are with diameter of 80mm, thicknesses 1,2/ 1,0 / 0,8 mm and teeth 64 / 80 /120. Blades are with and without hollow ground. Note that these are the same blades i cut strips myself with only change that it used to be D100mm but changed to D80mm. There has been few questions about samples that im happy to provide. Only concern is that each piece of log is still slightly different. I thought about this and i came up with solution if someone is interested. If you have a big build then i can "reserve" material for you and you dont have to order it all at once. Example you start building from Ancre plans and want to use boxwood. Then i would need rough number and sizes of sheets you intend to use and i would book that specific blank for you for future orders also for certain period of time. This would have good impact on having same color shade for complete build. More info about that case by case. Thank you for supporting Hobbymill.EU. With best regards, Vahur Hobbymill.EU

Hi Havent posted a long time. Planking dine, would give myself 7/10 due to lack of experience. Some minor sanding still needed and yes keel got some damage so i have to sand and stain it again. For next chapters i will probably open hobbymill stash and change as much as possible as tolerances are out of the roof and would love to see my own wood on ship. Lets see where and what i will replace. Will unglue the wales and change it to black hornbeam for sure. Keep safe and until next update Vahur Hobbymill.EU

Hi all, Hope you are doing well. Some updates to announce. New available products: Black hornbeam I looks amazing (not a sales guy talking but fellow modeller), bends well. Its truly black in and out. Strips 400mm long and sheets 35-40mm wide. American holly Amazing white. Available as strips and sheets. Price list only for strips as sheets all pieces are more unique in length but for strips average price can be calculated. American walnut Available as sheets and strips. Prices can be seems here for strips: https://hobbymill.voog.com/products/woodstrips Soon to be available: Really light swiss pearwood i finally got from Germany. Initial test are all good. Will try it out fully in near time. Still looking and discussing other hornbeam colors: yellow, blue, green. Any questions, quotes and more info: write me here or email hobbymill.eu@gmail.com Dont be scared of full pallet of pear (there arent so many orders that i would use it fast ). To keep costs down i have to buy the full pallet. If i buy small amount here locally then i have to pay 2-3 times that i would buy for pallet from big resellers in EU. This pallet should be enough for few years With best regards, Vahur / Hobbymill.EU

Not that i havent done anything but planking takes time. Now when milling planks myself i see how good the steipa could really be, sadly i cant change hull planking strips in middle of the build but will definitely use my own for decks. So but…looks rough before sanding but will look nice afterwards. Like said before not the best but satisfied for 1st try with sigle layer. Nicely bening ayc, pear or boxwood would make it much better. Lets see if i can finish planking this year. A and yes….frames somehow i managed to install to other side-make it to stand out of the crowd (nice excuse). Vahur Hobbymill.eu

Hi all, Hope you are doing well as modelling season after summer has really started. New products are listed on web but not all. Check: https://www.hobbymill.eu Some updates: 1) HMS Winchelsea is now offered also as Boxwood version. Listed price 322 EUR 2) Syren Ship Model Companys Cheerful 1806 wood package with milled stripes has been added: - Boxwood version - 170 EUR - Yellow cedar version - 130 EUR 3) American holly has arrived and looks great. It truly is white with almost no visible grain (sry for bad photos). As its not a big amount and each piece is different dimension its offered based on request. If someone is interested in full blanks then feel free to contact me. - Im still waiting feedback on stabilized hornbeam. When i sent in the final order then supplier just disappeared, lets hope i catch him soon. - Light pear (stock running low) supplier went trough his whole lot and came back with no superprime blanks (i respect the honesty when they said this isnt the quality you want). But luckily i found after weeks of searching an other one. I just sent them order and lets hope i get it soon. - Saw blades....yes interesting turn of events.... So its been really hard to find suitable blades even with adapters here in EU. I finally found supplier who makes them by order with clients modifications. I got some pieces with D100 that cut really well. I had problem before with boxwood and hornbeam thicker than 7mm but these worked really well. I will order some 80mm ones also as i think those are even better. At some point when im sure myself that the blades are really good then it will be available for orders also. Only reserve is that you must buy sheets also or be existing client so i dont become supplier for blades. Im still testing if hollow ground (0,2mm less than teeth) helps with cutting or not. Contact me directly here or by email if there are any questions etc. Quoting fellow member "Happy modelling". Vahur Hobbymill.EU hobbymill.eu@gmail.com https://www.hobbymill.eu
