    Thanks Gentlemen.
Yup, there is a lot of Sail and agree the lines are very graceful.
Regarding the Sails, I had a gripe in my previous Thread, The Kit supplied Sails are not 100%, if anything their too small.

A video of the real thing, not too bad for an 1898 Yacht design.

    Hi ,
This is my first attempt to show my progress on the forum. Excuse me if it is a little grey.
First off I am delighted with the kit supplied by De Agostini in magazine form although it is a bit annoying that we must wait for the monthly delivery.
I have built thee RED BARON in the same manner and it came out pretty good.
The SOS is the first undertaking of this scale and I have built two previous wooden kits: One from Holand and it was a BOTTER boat and the other is the PORT JACKSON supplied by Modellers Shipyard.
I would like at this stage to sincerely thank Fifthace and Tomick at this stage for the advice on many aspects of the build, I have certainly become the wiser after reading their notes and photo's
I am posting the photos of the work I have carried out so far on the SOS for any comments or suggestions.

    Till the next post,
    Snoepert

My little snaplock container seals my rigging glue and does a great job. Every now and then I replace with fresh batch of 50:50 white glue and water.

Violin blocks on the lower main and lower fore yards. The rest are normal blocks large and small.
Still have to attack blocks on the ends of the mid and top yards.

    Hi all,
An update, while work on the pilot house has stalled due to a lack of material(on order hope to see it today!) I moved on to some other items.

First up was the bulwarks, all the sanding left them a little thin and tapered to a sharp edge on top, they were really fragile and had been broken in a couple spots just from handling, so I decided to thicken them up and try to get them closer to square at the same time.

This work started by adding a 1/32 reinforcing strip to the top...then filler was floated between the strip and the bottom of the bulwark.   Then started the fun cycle of ...sand...check...refill...repeat...until I was satisfied with the finish, well not really satisfied but close enough for rock and roll,      Then the ports were reopened.

Those of you that may have looked in on my Half Moon build know that I can manage to butcher gun ports fairly well !  So it was no surprise (at least to me) that the ports on the HL needed a bit of work. I had originally cut them slightly oversize to allow for frames so now I carefully sanded them with sanding sticks and made frames out of 1/32 stock and have begun to set them in place...the ones at the bow are complete the rest remain to be done.  After I should be able to get the hull back in primer for further evaluation and probably more filling and sanding...

That's it for now, as always thanks for your attention, Pics follow:

    New paneling

    Razor edge

    Reinforcing strip added

    and fill (wood putty)

    aft as well

    sand and refill...etc

    cutting port frames

Lots achieved today, she even has props fitted, but apart from small weapons to be painted and fitted, and some radar sets I will now concentrate on weathering her for the next day or so and then finish her off with the rigging, have enjoyed this build, and have other projects lined up like the 1/200 USS Hornet and 1/200 Sovremenny, but it looks like i am now back in the mood to push on with the Victory

So the build begins. This is the first time I've had to deal with a multi-part main frame. A little glue and some weights should do the trick.
Had some help from my second mate tonight. A thunder storm was rumbling through, and she felt it important to be as close as possible to guard my feet.

Keeping adding the elements on the deck.

The interior of the bulwarks were planked using some leftover 0.5 mm strips. The instructions say that it should be painted, but I was afraid I would ruin the planking (I am not a skilled painter) so I left them natural.

I used all the supplied materials for it, excepting the stairs, made them from some leftovers.

The instructions say the deck should be simulated by using a pen and straight lines directly on the solid hull. I didn't like the idea so I've searched in my goodies shelf and found some 2x1mm lime wood strips. I glued them to the hull using PVA colored with black ink to simulate the caulking and then sand it so I can lower the deck with 0.5 mm or so. I did that before mounting the bulwarks. The strips are 8 cm long.

    The Hull

Since I am still in the process of making the thursters, the work on the ship is quite slow, usually I just glue a plank or two in the stern area.
This is the one of the handful of places where actual planking is being used, most of the hull is "planked" by large pieces of pre-cut 2mm plywood, not that I am complaining, it's just that this way is easy to do and fast...

    Attaching the bottom parts.

Started the planking of the inner stern bend. Since I didn't post for a while, I already have finished the stern planking.

And here comes my first question for the more experienced members. Do you know of a trick of how to sand these kinds of surfaces? I think this is a convex surface, in mathematical terms. I used my thumb, and of course ended up burning it a bit...

    The Rear deck

During these weeks I was also working on the rear deck, where a planked area of the deck is. For this I got for myself 18 meters of mahogany strip and 5 meters of lime strip. In the course of one day, cut the mahogany to 700 pieces and started the patient part of the process.

The strips, 3x1 mm mahogany and 1x1 mm lime.

The detail of the glued planks, the black stuff is PVA mixed with black color. Was trying this method out, turns out, it is quite a good one, except the amount of sanding needed to get it finished.

    In the process of sanding...

The almost finished deck. A few more hours of sanding at fine grits, and at least 3 coats of semi mat lacquer, and it should be done.
