  1. I know what you mean, but I don't know the answer. I think it depends on the relative positions of the block to the rail. Maybe also just the preference of the crew or the officers in charge? I would go with the left version of your drawing.
  2. I did my windows a dark blue and glued a little transparent foil on top to simulate glass. But it should not be too gloss at that scale... Mine was something between gloss and satin.
  3. She is nearly finished. I plan to upload a gallery with pictures, hopefully soon😊
  4. According to th AOTS-Book of the Beagle, it actually is for a flagstaff. It was probably only rigged in port and not when under sail.
  5. I used temporary nails to hold the planks of the first layer of planking. After the glue dried, i removed the nails. The resulting hole is afterwards covered by the second planking. For me it was a good solution and easy to acomplish.
  6. I think the letters refer to another view of the mast. Figute A should be a depiction of the mast vrom the front and figure B the view of the mast on the indicated hight form above.
  7. I am thinking about using a blue colered MDF-plate as a base. What are your thoughts about that? Does it look cheap?
  8. For me it is a first step to PoF Kits, which is new. Personally I would prefer a smaller ship in 1:64 scale, but historically more accurate.
  9. I hope we will! And it will make us happy from what I see so far 😃 Great work, enjoying to watch the rigging process!
  10. The orientation of the bowpiece in the first picture ist right. I had to file quite a bit o the hull and if I remember correctly a little on the piece itself. Somehow I managed to make it fit...
  11. I think whitout a sail, the tack and sheets would not be rigged. Maybe this helps:
  12. I did the same. Always a strange feeling to drill in such a nice hull...
  13. I think i varnished the hull at the step where you are now without any problems later on. Your build looks really nice so far! :)
  14. Yes, the hammocks... I don't like them in this kit. Since it is my first build, I realized too late, that these should depict hammocks. For me it was just a decoration of the bulwarks. It is too late to change, since I'm in the process of rigging.
  15. The Kit shows the Ship after the 1831 refit for Darwins voyage. In 1820 she was launched 2-masted and later refitted with a third mast.
  16. Nice to have you back! 😃 Looking forward to your posts. My Beagle will have to wait for 3 months, since I'm travelling. She has now all 3 masts completed and all the yards and booms except for the main mast. So I'm in for some rigging after my travels.
  17. Congratulations! Looks really nice! Also thank you for the tipps for others who build this kit like me. The leftover picture is a nice help to give me an idea where the shortages lie. how many blocks do you have left?
  18. Regarding your third question: If the sails aren't used regularly, i think they would have been set only if needed to reduce wear. If they were used often they were furled like in the picture. I couldn't find a better picture sadly. Nevertheless I hope this helps.
