i Dave, thanks for looking in.  The printer is one of 2 a mate of mine purchased; he is a wiz at 3D and G code and rather than learn even more skills before I have mastered the few I have,I have taken up his kind offer to produce these for me

@*Hans*, I have not seen Catweazle before, until now on YouTube. Very funny. Would like to have seen it in Australia. Also, thank you for compliment.

    Thank you @KeithAug, @druxey, @BANYAN, @oneslim, and @prutser for your 'likes'.

    Completed the boat.
The rigging string, as someone previously suggested, got pre-stretched since November (I think). I added weights to either end of a lenghth of string, and hung it over a door. Since rigging the boat, we had over a short period of time, both high and low humidity. Neither effected the tension of the rigging, so I am very pleased about that.

I really enjoyed building my first vessel. Though it is only a small boat, I have learnt a great deal from putting her together. This introductory exercise has increased my respect for model ship builders. It may turn out to become a new hobby for me.

Oil canning started on the lower hull. The instructions say that the lower hull should be Coca Brown but I think I’ll just use that as the base undercoat. As you can see from the real think it is a lot brighter.  About a day’s work to do up the black lines then filling in the spaces.

Many thanks for looking in and your kind comments Jason, I'll keep you posted on the capstan.  Latest attempt allows most of the detail to be presented such as the capstan bar holes etc, but the bar locking pins are proving too much for the printer at 1:72.  The hardest part will be trying to paint this as I have developed the 'old fella' shakes   The doctor suggested I have a few drams the night before (but was careful to mention that he was not encouraging me to drink :))

Thank you all for your comments.  I did have a lot of fun on this unusual project.  I hope that the visitors also get a chuckle, as well as learning a few things about our brave sailors who kept the Atlantic lifeline open in some of the darkest hours.

If you live in or are visiting the New York area, this little gem of a museum is worth the time.  Many ship models, from an exquisitely detailed 15 foot long SS Washington to a cabinet of 1:1200 miniatures, as well as a huge interactive tabletop exhibit of a convoy at sea.  Rooms of navigation equipment and videos of sailors' recounting their experiences.  Contact them at museum@usmma.edu    Phone: 516-726-6047

Stunning work Jason; very nicely detailed with clean sharp finishes.  I have to agree with your choice on the 'gingerbread', the Georgian detail looks the part - she is looking very good indeed mate.

Very nice work on the rudder and fittings Jason.  It bodes well for a very nice model with the care and attention to research you are doing.

For consideration only, I invested in a punch kit plastic modellers use which can punch many sizes and styles of head from a very thin foil.  A bit tricky positioning but they do provide a more realistic result when painted.  Not trying to get you to change your current work, just for the future if that is what you are trying to achieve.

I have a set of the the Small Shop - The nutter set - for blind, bolts and rivets which I got from Historex - I have no connection with them whatsoever, simply where I got mine

Hi folks, a few more progress pics showing the redone paintwork (hull) - still some touching up needed but it is getting there.

Note the 'vermillion' ports (colour as per contract).  i have portrayed her with bucklers in place on one side, and open on the other.  The bucklers will be secured with a batten across the towing timbers once I have placed them (very soon) using a threaded rod and wing nut system.

The next jobs are to add all the detail to the bulwarks which will include, ring bolts for gun tackles and breeching ropes, cleats for securing lines, iron garlands for ready use shoot, lead linesman's platform etc.

As usual, all comments, suggestion for improvement etc are most welcomed.

    cheers

Hi folks some more progress on this build.  I have now done a fair mount of the painting.  The bulwarks and cap rails are finished but the hull still needs its final coat of black - you can see where I have started final sanding etc.  The figurehead requires some touching up of the white to complete it also.

The following show progressively how I have been proceeding.  First I built a build cradle which is hinged at the front so that I can angle the deck appropriately under a large mill to drill the mast holes.  This cradle keeps the ship nice and steady - there are two bicycle spoked from the keel (epoxied in) that pass through the assembly and secured with nuts under the board; the door wedges are for leveling the deck laterally.

The next photo shows her masked and the priming coat applied.  the last two photos are of her in her current state.  the larger holes are for the scupper outlets; the final size is much smaller - a 9" scupper at 1:1.  The smaller holes are for the Lang Scuttles mentioned earlier in this log.

I have also attached a 3D render of what the capstan will look like.

    PORT SIDE COMPLETED....
I decided to completely finish the port side head rail structure before going to the starboard side.... primarily because I was not sure how I would approach the white edge trimming.
The second photo includes the  cat head, installed, but not completed (the rigging of the eye bolts have not been done)
