    Welcome to MSW Tom....

Yes indeed this is true...I am very excited to say.  😁

Over the last few weeks I have worked with Tom at CAF to introduce him to Didier Berti of Ancre.  It was my hope that if these two could discuss the issues at hand that some sort of agreement could be reached.   It has been and I am thrilled to announce that they have formed an agreement which takes both past sales of Ancre related kits and future sales into consideration.   I would also like to thank Kerry Jang who was instrumental in this process.

With this licensing agreement between Ancre almost finalized, I can announce officially the lifting of the ban we placed on all CAF kits.  I also welcome Tom and CAF models to MSW where I expect he will become a cherished member and hopefully sponsor.   So if you intend on building any CAF kit please do start a build log and ask Tom for assistance.

Here is a link to the CAF website....https://www.cafmodel.com/

This should make it perfectly clear that our main focus at MSW and the NRG was indeed the act of pirating kits and the theft of intellectual property.  It was not a vendetta against any individual or country.

We have removed all reference to CAF being banned on MSW....Everyone should enjoy building CAF kits and I insist that you start a build log when you get started!!!

Everyone....Please join me in welcoming Tom from CAF models!!!!

    Chuck

Hello all,  I'm Tom from Shanghai, China. My English is not very good. I use Google translation software to communicate   I am very grateful to MSW, the communication platform, for letting me see a lot of excellent works, for letting me see a lot of production experience, and for letting me learn and progress from it   Now I have a small studio cafmodel. We mainly develop the kit of the model,   Previously, La salamander, Le Requn, La Belle, La renommee, La jacinthe, HMS enterprise, HMS Bellona have been developed   At the beginning, I didn't pay attention to the copyright, but now I gradually understand that my product has the problem of infringement, and I think I should make changes   I make a statement   CAF models has recently been contacted by Chuck Passaro of the Nautical Research Guild. I am very thankful for his guidance. Chuck has worked with me to address my use of Ancre plans for my kits that all of you are familiar with. He has made it possible for me to meet Mr.Berti of Ancre so we can discuss rectifying the situation. He introduced me to Mr Berti. I apologize to Ancre for copying their plans without permission or compensation and through this introduction I have now come to an agreement with Ancre which now enables me to sell my kits with a legitimate relationship between us. I appreciate the time and professional relationship I now have with Chuck, Didier Berti and the NR G. Chuck has informed me that CAF models and my kits will now be welcomed on Model Ship World and I am very grateful for this. Thank you   I hope to get the understanding of Ancre publishing house that I will stop selling all infringing products before obtaining production authorization   Tom

    Hi Peter,

You said it - "we are all human". Your build log was in the "Wooden Ships" Index, you hadn't added "RADIO" to the title so I didn't know that it needed to go into the R/C Index. I've edited the title of your log for you and updated the R/C Index.

The other log by NMBROOK has been deleted, he did it himself. He has had some kind of issue with this forum and is no longer a member.

His other build logs and posts are still there, just hidden from the general membership as he has been Banned by this forum. This is normal forum policy - we don't delete the content of Banned members in case the issue is resolved at a later date and the member is restored. In that case all his/her topics and posts are then "Un-Hidden".

Have a good day. Cheers, Danny

Dan, In case you haven’t been thanked for this lately, I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your work on these log files.  They are a great help and I use them all the time.  I’m sure you put a lot of effort into keeping them updated.  Thank you!

It's not you Mike, it was all ME (and not for the first time either). I uploaded the wrong files this morning when I updated the Indexes. Sorry about that  .

Thanks for the "heads up". All fixed now.

I have had the Craftsman version of that tool for years.  The biggest difference between the two tools is that mine is cordless with a rechargeable lithium ion battery.  It has that offset in the tool sanding and cutting blades that lets you get in real close.  It's a very handy feature that remodelers find very useful for under cutting trim mouldings to install new flooring, since the tool itself can literally get flush with floor to make the cut.

    Mark,
Dust can be a real bear once you are sensitized to it. Baltic Birch really gets to me, I have to leave my respirator on for several minutes and run the dust collection at work a few extra minutes or I end up sneezing repeatedly.
Would something like this, but an a smaller scale help? Should be pretty easy to build one, just a simple box and some sort of grating on the top over the filters.

Thanks for the likes and comments.  And also for your patience.

I probably have 80% of the starboard side sanded and nothing sanded on the port and nothing done as far as framing to area above the gun deck.   Things are going slowly.  A big part of the problem is the sanding dust.  I've not used balsa and Lite ply before. Even with two shop vacs and air purifier running and facemask my sinuses scream after about an hour's work.  So abandon ship so to speak and go do other things in the apartment for a few hours.  The workshop also doubles as my "office", "computer room" and general hideout.   I'm starting a new sinus med the doctor recommended and I hope that will help.  Now if the weather warmed up, I could probably sit outside and be done sanding in a day or two.....

My latest acquisition in Japanese mini saws is this one from StewMac:

    Japanese Curved-edge Mini Saw
    Item # 3612

I am able to do fairly close cross cuts with it with less effort than straight edged saws.

That's a nice way to both get rid of your excess materials and at the same time get the books into the hands of someone who can appreciate them rather than just going into to a landfill.

I agree Joe, as I bought the very same saw from our local Wood Crafter shop earlier this year.  It makes a very fine cut and even people with limited strength like me will find that very little effort is needed to make a cut.

I have found several tools that have migrated from my wood working chest to my modeling chest. The latest is this Japanese flush cutting hand saw that has been a real surprise to me in modeling. I have had other style flush cutting saws but none have proved to be as good as this one. It has a blade thickness of 0.0120 inches or 0.30 mm. It has 2 blade pitches, the finest is about 0.725 inches. There is zero tooth offset and it is incredibly sharp. As with most Japanese saws it is a pull cut. I purchased it from Lee Valley for a few dollars .

    Hello friends
long time ago i had the chance to buy few brand new tools of proxxon from some guy who bought them and never used them ...
one of the tools called Delta its a bit big for our hobby.. but I knew a day would come and I would find use of this tool
so today i had to sand some aria in the ship but it was very difficult to reach this spot..
so i made a very handy and precise tool for my Delta
i used an aluminum strip for the tool
firs i made an hole of 10 mm to feat the delta screw
than i cute the shape that i want (by using a table saw , and sanding disc)
and after all i twisted the aluminum to useful shape
and after all i used an sticky sand paper
    and its working amazing !!!!!!!!!!!
i hope you will find it useful
    Best regards,
    Michael.

This gives you a feeling for how many trees went into the building of such ships and even the model consumes quite a bit - and well-shaped bits
