All are welcome. I only hope you will be entertained by this build.

Tom you are correct but when she was rebuilt the break was added and there are pictures that show where it is.  Meanwhile here she is under sail.

So it's an edge bend!  Soak well, bend slowly and get a weight or clamps on it to keep it flat in the jig.  Good luck!

the journey continues with the bulwark planking.   I'd do a little here,  and a little there.....in between,  messing with other things.  since I had the one called Larry on the slip,  I continued with the planking until the bulwarks were complete.  I even did a little sanding,  along with the sanding at the stern,  to eliminate the plank stubbles.

next was the one called Moe.......it was refreshing to work with real plywood,  even though it was a bit harder to use pins

the third row on each one of them has the butt joint in the same place.   it was time to lay the fourth row.

last,  but not least,  was the one called Curly.   I got tied up with  'other things'.........but I did manage to get all the planking done.

I did say that I was going to bounce around and do some sub assemblies.  I decided to do a bit of work on the Boulogne Etaples........the host of this little fiasco.   it was pretty cool to see the four hulls together.

with all the bulwark planking done..........I can move on

Today all the work was done on Keel 1 , I the blocks that I stained yesterday , and using the same wrapping of the blocks with string (I showed how I made them in a previous build log)I made up all thge blocks needed Then I made a new tiller and still have to finish it ( its just been rough cut) all the masting is complete with the exception of the Boom being installed . I purchased some better thread for all the running rigging (it looks more like rope) The mast is set , the only thing left to make is the fish well covers . I am also giving a few comparison shot's between the kit build ( White Hull dark Cockpit/Cabin Coaming) Here are the results

Wow!  It’s been almost a month since I’ve added to this thread.  Well I did a little more adding to the deck furnishings and details.   Those who have done a web search are sure to see more that could be added, but for now I’m going to call it finished.  As I said early on, years ago I had wanted to build the Hoga in a larger scale as an RC boat but that never happened.  This build was a “make do” so I could say I built it, but it is not the boat in the water I had dreamed of and I am not happy with it.  So it’s time to say, “Enough, It is finished.” and go on to other builds.   Here are pictures as it is now.  Good enough to put on the shelf.

A single cylinder steam engine cannot be dependably reversed but a two cylinder “V” steam engine can be reversed and does not take up much more room.

Tim, John, Sailor, Denis, Greg, bob, and Tom, thanks for your feed back on the change. and for the likes.

Regarding a place to sit I was thinking that something along the lines of this cockpit on Mascotte would be good. I notice that Olga alongside has a similar set up.

There is a seat across the aft end of it and for standing the walls are a little higher which I would think will support one a little better with the slightly higher walls and better for keeping water out.

My original thinking was to have a gasket under the edge of the top of the cockpit so that I could seal it. I am now thinking that if i rebuild it the same basic style as the one on Mascotte then I can fix it solidly to the hull with a lift out bottom to access the lines to the rudder control. But I can fit a clear lid into the top when I put it into the water.

The picture that shows the reshaped cockpit that I have already made shows the fact that it was a loose fit into the hull. This change will allow me to use narrower planks and fit to the curves in the deck better with a caulked seam around the joint between the cockpit and the deck which would also look better I think.

This afternoon I finished cutting all the frames , I re lofted the Transom and changed it out so that it will line up better with the Cockpit Coaming. To this Point nothing has been glued, and the new Transom is being held on with masking tape, I still have to true up all the frames and finish sanding the new frames. Here are the results

I am going to suggest that you will need even more ballast than I do. My T37 is a sloop with one mast and the mast is approx. 5 ft high. she carries 635 sq inches of sail. She has a long fin keel with approx. 2 lb of lead ballast on that keel. The hull is just shy of 1 meter in length.

I am guessing your boat will be bigger and carry more sail. Therefore I am also guessing you will need more ballast than I do. I know it doesn't look good but I am afraid you will also need a fin keel. I know that my T37 will turn turtle in a split second if the ballast was in the hull. It would be a shame for such beautiful work to end up upside down.

Francis Pritt has taken another couple of small steps forward.  The basic beam for the stern framing has now been attached with its doublers across the rudder trunking and the first two after frames are ready for shaping.  Now she feels like she's about to become a ship!

I won't be in the museum again until New Years Day, but in the meantime I need to construct a building frame and get some more wood cut for the frames.

After yestedays Planking Marathon on Keel 3 ( Scratch  built Build Log) I decided to have a little fun with Keel 2 (The Blue Boat), I made a Door for the bulkhead in the Cabin, Painted the Bulkhead a Flat White, as well as the cockpit seat benches . I made a Grating for the cockpit floor wich will still need to be stained, (and will be able to be lifted out as to gain access to the Bilge)some molding for the Fish wells and a Tiller. On Keel 1 I had to make new Blocks for the Rigging ( I accidently threw them away) Here are the results

When I was into RC, I used to worry about getting epoxy into all the cracks and crevices, then I read about mixing the epoxy 30% with alcohol.  It thins out the epoxy and lets it get into the wood.  I’ve even used a 50% mix with no change to the epoxy after the alcohol evaporates and no change in cure time.  I always epoxied both inside and out, usually with glass on the outside.  Instead of glass some of the modelers used their wife’s old nylons.  They seemed to work fine and were easier to mold to the hull.
