popeye the sailor got a reaction from JPett in America by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - Billing Boats - 1:72 scale
nawww.......it's the other way around.....LOL! I'm just kidding though. but, I am close towards getting back to the Goth. got a few other aspects I want to get on the deck, and a bit more moldings for the stern........then I can work on the masting. lots of planking on the Half Moon, so that will definitely break the tension. I'll look forward to seeing some progress on your build......but please do it when you feel absolutely ready.

popeye the sailor got a reaction from Bluebeard in Half Moon by popeye the sailor - Billing Boats - 1:40 scale kit
I came in possession of this kit quite by surprise. the box was fairly intact, with only minor damage on one of the side panels. along with it, were a few assorted bundles of planking and a package of different size dowels. one of the bundles was for this kit........
I added it to the kit.......to the bundle of planking that was already in there.......I guess I'll have more than enough. doing a complete inspection of the contents, I found that I was missing a good deal of parts.
I took pictures of the contents, after I removed the hull parts........they, at least, are all there. I contemplated renaming the ship, but it would be hard to do, since most of the ships that I know of, all sport these tops {crows nests}. some of the deck platforms, most of the crows nest parts, the cannon port lids, and some of the deck fittings {wood}, is a pretty good tally of what's missing. I see I'll be doing a good deal of scratch work. the bones are all there......I think I can make it work

I've been threatening myself for the past 4 weeks to get things finished up..... finally got my work space tidy up today, so no excuses now...
Maybe if you start your Goth again that'll give me some incentive or maybe I should wait until you get your Half Moon turned into a full moon .... I just wish I had your mind set and your talent , then I 'd be finished :D

I think the rule of thumb for the dead eye lanyards is 2 1/2 times the size of the dead eye itself.......I read that somewhere. looking good Sjors

with the job I do.......cuts and knucklebusting is common.......I do try to be safe. the admiral and I have been together long enough, that when I don't get back to it, right after a zinger.......she knows it's bad. I thank my lucky stars, that hasn't happened yet
one time I drilled a hole in the meaty part of the palm of my hand.........she was right there when I pulled it out. sometimes, we can be right, for all the dumb reasons. no typo........I've just gained a new level of common sense.
glad your mending well

OUCH!!! yea, sad to hear my friend glad to hear that is all that happened. back in the day, I was used to running the big saws in the mill {cabinet shop}. I was used to grabbing any thin piece of wood for push sticks. some of the guys would take the guides off, but they would come back in to find them back on.......I'm no fool! I'm sure the admiral was pleased with you. mend up, my friend.....you'll be back in the saddle in no time
back in my day, working with open faced routers........I developed a great 'pull back' reflex.........especially when routing the edges off of 4" X 4" blocks of wood. as soon as that #%@! wood took a fly.......my hands were in the sky!

Wow Popeye - I am amazed how many ships you take on at once, and all look great. This is, and will be, no exception. I guess I'll pull up a chair.

Sorry to read about the thickness problem. But that's a nice bit of improvising you've done there. Jot down those proportions on the mixed stain!
I'm not sure how Tung Oil acts but Popeye's suggestion to get her sealed is a great idea.
Having fun yet ????

Brethren, I have been busy doing a few things. Lots of memory work for those of you who know of what I speak out of the Blue and into the Red
Installed as "Z" yesterday and will be past Master of Meridian Lodge 129 as of June 12th.
The boat has been sitting with the shrouds and forestay straining to be heard for a few days now and they are giving me a bit of agro as it was coined by my brother a few years ago.
the one with green flag is needing to be re seized because it was to long.
The thing is I stretched these shrouds and then they need more stretching. At this scale perhaps I should be thinking wire rope.

It's certainly no simple task you've taken on, Kats!
By the way, without sails, you won't have to worry about any jib or staysail sheets - they'd be sent down with the sails.

Andy,
Have fun. I guess some folks will do anything to put off the ratlines and this is good practice for avoiding them.

HI Adam, thanks for the kind words you left on my build log.... I wish I had as much confidence as you do in my doing a build video.... When I first got my flip video camera I did a mickey mouse video on the start of the hull weathering. If I find it I'll try and post it for you so you can see how corny I really am. How's this build coming along for you? this will be a real winner!!
