  1. Patrick, your planking looks great and I’m following your build with interest. One suggestion, I think that there was a passageway between the fore and aft main cabins that is closed if you follow the instructions, which is what I did. I think one of the other builds on here shows it opened up that may be more accurate.

    Hi Don,

Enjoyed and inspired looked at your Calypso build. Unfortunately, my Calypso, purchased new, did not come with the helicopter fuselage. I have contacted the American distributor, and they say they have no parts and that I must contact the overseas parent company. I have reached out to them three times over a 5 week period with no response. Could you tell me more about your helicopter which looks great. Is this something still made that I might use as a replacement.

    Regards,

    Patrick

    Patrick,

Thanks for the kind words, it’s really appreciated!

It’s a 1:48 OH13 Sioux made by Italeri and is available from Squadron models online, Squadron.com, and I’m sure other vendors. There are a couple of problems, it’s not historically accurate for the Calypso, and it’s slightly out of scale. I modified it to use the floats that came with the Billings kit. If you can live with the problems, it’s a nice addition.

    thanks again,

  3. Hank, FYI, there’s a new Arleigh Burke out from ILoveKits (Trumpeter?) in a 1:200 scale that’s available from Squadron - the reviews I’ve seen are good and I’ve got one on order. The scale is large enough to allow much easier detailing than the others scaled at 1:350, although the case would have to be larger.

I have a Byrne’s saw and couldn’t live without it, I really hope that they can continue. Back in the summer, they closed their site to orders for everything except their new disk sander, so I ordered one and it was delivered the same week Jim passed. It’s a real jewel! Jim’s tools are works of art - he will be missed.

Don, this project was commissioned by the Missouri Civil War Museum, located on Jefferson Barracks (now a veterans' cemetery) in St. Louis. To be honest, there have been some communication problems between us and the Museum's director, so we're uncertain if and when the installation will be done. Hopefully it will come to pass, and if so, I'll be posting some pictures of the dedication/installation ceremony. Thanks for asking.

    Tim,

Thanks, I hope you get your communications issues resolved - I am a little over 500 miles from St Louis and will make a special trip there just to see it in person.
