Thanks for all the likes everyone.
Time for another update. I have been progressing nicely without any dramas (touch wood...lol).
I have been building up the masts up to the point where I have to add all the blocks. Next will be gluing them into the hull. That will be a milestone and definitely a task I will take my time with. I plan not to use a jig but I will likely cover a fair distance running around the model to make sure they line up while the glue sets.
I also made a start on the chain plate assemblies (so I can multitask after all, didn't think I had it in me....lol). I haven't put them on the channels yet.
There are a few photo's to get through so better get on with it....
    Cheers, Peter

I'm working on the hammock cranes, etc. If the eyebolts were any smaller I'd need x-ray vision to install them

Fortunately we have not lost power even though a lot of people around me have. Good time to work in the shipyard. Hearing the driving rain and howling winds makes me imagine what it was like to be at sea on way back then in such a violent storm.

Anyway, made the Gaff and the Boom. I have done as much pre-rigging as I can before they are attached. The instructions said you can paint them or not- your choice. I was going to leave them with a light golden oak stain but had to do some patch-up work on the Gaff where it got some wood marred and gouged from an accidental drop on the floor and got stepped on. At this point I saw that the paint would completely hide this so black they now are. This also hid where I had to re-glue both jaws because of the very poor wood supplied in the kit. I wish I had made them from better wood to start with.

Completed all the rigging for these two. Found it much more difficult to get into the tight places to tie off to the belaying pins than it used to be for me. My kit was missing the beads for the parrels but I had plenty from earlier builds.

Love those last shots, great looking fake sheaves and wonderful rigging which looks just the right scale, very nice!

    SHIP MODELERS BURNOUT....
How many of you have experienced it?
In my case, following four other major ship builds, non-stop, (all scratch builds), and now with over 2,500 hours into my fifth, and most important build, I find that I am experiencing complete modelers burnout.
I have decided it's time to step away for a long break, before proceeding any further along with the critical stage of rigging the spars for this USS Constitution.
For me, when I reach this stage, it's a matter of getting plain sloppy in my work.  Daily mistakes, getting in a hurry, poor measurements, rip-outs and reworks.....
So, amid the process of creating her lower spars,  I've removed the Connie from my work bench for now.

Here is a shot of work in progress on the six lower spars....

Here we go again! The boarding panel slit the minute I made a tiny starter hole for the eyebolt. Boy the wood in this kit is sub standard. I'll make my own out of sturdier stuff

Cheers Gents, appreciate the support, comments and likes...

    Welcome aboard Ian 🙂

A rather dreary rainy day precluded any other activities so as able get a decent amount of time in.  Spent most of the day completing the cannon carriages, these really are incredibly time consuming and seemingly never ending, but can now report are complete.  I did decide to cheat a little on those carriages that will be mostly obscured away from the waist.  Rather than continuing to use the  pins to simulate bolts which are incredibly fiddly, the carriage bolts were simulated using a fine tip black pen and then touch of dark iron paint to tone it down.  Pins have been used on all the carriages that will mount in or immediately about the waist.  The macro photo below shows the 'real' bolts in the foreground and the 'cheat' in the rear.  At real life viewing distance these are difficult to tell apart if you didn't know - the difference really being the lack of about 8hrs of cursing.

Experimentation with the cap squares and royal cyphers next...

I managed to attach all the hearts to the bowsprit. I'm not very satisfied with the results. Does anyone have an idea as to where I can look to find the proper way of lashing the hearts, I've looked in my books and in the resource sections here and haven't found anything.

I hope my rigging gets better as I move along.

Thanks to all for your likes and comments, it really helps.

Thomas, I totally agree with you.

I've made more progress. I completed the open and closed hearts but I'm not happy with the results. I wasn't sure how to lash the cord to the hearts. I need a how to book on this one.
When I examined the drawings it looked like all the hearts have double cords on them but in the picture in the instructiions look like only the open hearts had double cords.

I lashed and stowed the ship's sweeps under the longboat. That finishes the longboat. Enough with the longboat already!

    Slowly progressing to finish line.
I created a Red Ensign on 50gsm tracing paper...two sheets laminated together with CA, with ensign printed on each, on my home printer.
Probably a bit large....but I like it that way.
Then added rope trim using 0.5mm thread.
Furls are quite easy to form without any special treatment.
Happy with result. Photos of it temporarily attached to model.

I finished painting the ship's sweeps. When dry I will bundle them in two bundles of eight and tuck them under the longboat and lash them down.

I shaped the ship's sweeps. Three of them broke while sanding! Oh the crappy wood in this kit!
    I'll paint them tomorrow.

    Jesse Lee,
I'm like you and have been dealing with stage three cancer since Jan 1. It's no walk in the park and I didn't work on my boat for six months. Hang in there. I love your build.

    Evening,
Well, I started today about 4am, just to get the chores done and get back to the shipyard.
First quiet weekend in a while. Looking to take full advantage!

I started cutting the Main Mast

    From what I can tell.
The Mast has an angle roughly 11 degrees.
    Am I reading this right?
Is the angle measured on the protractor from the center line of the dowel?
Not the fore or aft edge of the dowel?

I've also been keeping in mind where the Shrouds are located, and 11 degrees looks good.

    I made my Galley grating!
    It was kinda fun.

The eggcrate method with the grating supplied is unique.
    Odd looking stuff.

Maybe not for this build, but, I see an upgrade to Syren gratings in the future.

Primed, then a few coats of red.

I just had to throw in the below pics.
Its been a beautiful fall in New England.

    Winter is next! I'm ready!

Thanks Rich. I am beginning to feel a little better, hoping to get back to mine soon. It has been a rough year for me.

As you have seen most of the wood supplied in this kit is not that good. You have done good remaking things with better wood. I just ordered some blocks from Chucks Syren Model Co. because they didn't give me enough in the kit. The quality difference is amazing.
