Just a note- the NRG photo competition wants a 500 WORD description, not 500 pages!

Thanks Rick. I'm not so much about the process...but about the final look and finish. Paint covers a multitude of sin. It doesn't matter what the woodwork looks like...so long as the finish is smooth, contouring and replicates the true hull form. Once I get the wood laid....I'll begin to form with wood Bondo....then I will begin to refer to the images Rich provided of the McKay half hull model....and finalize her shape.

regarding rudder throw - either go further out on the servo arm or closer in at the rudder arm. Or both!

Add another "10% 0ff" of your next kit you buy from us! Good job!

You can also cut reliefs into the sternpost and rudder.

Anyone understand about the pins through the carriages? @MrBlueJacket perhaps?
The pins would be used to help fasten the carriages to the deck. The most logical placement would be through the crossbar at the rear, below where the quoin goes.
Nic
PS - The quoin is a wedge shaped piece with a handle, used to fine adjust the angle of the cannon.

To my eyes, Avi's pix of the real cannon look very dark gray as opposed to flat black. Then there is the "scale effect" of distance, which means the further away you are, the more washed out colors become. People looking at your model from 2 feet away is like looking at the real thing from 20 feet away.

Hi,
That kit you bought in September 2021 was from the estate of a good customer of ours, Dr. Jack McD. who passed away and his wife wanted us to disburse his hobby stuff.
When you finish this build thread, you will get a 10% discount on the next kit you buy from us.

Hi @MrBlueJacket 👋
Rinsing and drying? So what do I do? Create a 10:1 solution, dunk the cannon in there and leave for 5 mins, then take them out and rinse them and dry them gently with paper towel?
Exactly. You have to remove any solution, then of course dry them.

EDIT: I just remembered, I bought a bottle of the BlueJacket Pewter Black toner a while ago. Would that be better (for the cannon and wheels) than prime+paint? It looks like it is 10:1 water:toner, is that right? What are your thoughts @MrBlueJacket?
Yes, the toner works great 10:1 is recommended, but it can be stronger or weaker, it just changes how long it takes. After rinsing and drying, a coat of flat clear will preserve the finish. It is kinda like rust, in that it can rub off with handling.

I've used the Revel Constitution figures for the Red Jacket and other models as well.
