Que tal Eugenio: Well, to be a beginner you are excellent and I suppose you are an engineer, an architect or something related to the manual arts because you have good skills for modeling. Well, I have continued with the HMS Victory (bow section) from Panart and the instructions really leave a lot to be desired and if it weren't for some photos and drawings you could easily remove them. Now I'm working on the bowsprits and I don't know how to do it, the only illustration that comes does not clarify anything. I wonder how the bowsprits and the rigging that accompany it in your model are described and if possible could you send me a photo of them. Muchos saludos, Karl

Hello Eugenio, I am happy to see another Mexican modeler in the Forum. Another countryman of yours and a very good modeler, Ulises Victoria, I haven't heard from him for a long time. I have dedicated myself to wooden models for about ten years and I alternate it with my other hobby, painting. My last boat was a sardine that I made to order. Now I am with the bow of Panart's Victory (1:78 scale) and which I will upload to the forum soon. I have seen your participation in the Forum with interest and I congratulate you for your work. Greetings from Guaymas

Hola Brewerpaul: Thanks for your kind words, and the solution of making the flags with computer is really easy and so the way to fix them on wood. Saludos, Karl

Hola Michael: You have really done a splendid job, especially considering that your finished boat has nothing to do with the original Corel Kit and much to do with the Vasa found in the museum. I remember your first post in February 2013 about Vasa, and although time has passed, it has been well worth it. Ready for the next project? Saludos, Karl

Hola Michael: Thank´s for the compliments and it was nice to be helpful. In my case the lantern was provided with the kit, so probably you can ask for one (but seeing yours I don´t see the case). Thank you for the information about the miniature sailors, probably I´ll include a pair of them. Saludos, Karl

Hola Michael: Very nice lantern you made and doesn't matter if it is real as it was (anyway nobody knows what it looks like, jaja). One question, where did you find those sailors, they serve as a good way to show the big size of the ship. Saludos, Karl

Hola Michael, your rope coils are really nice and adding splendid details to your Vasa. Saludos, Karl

Hola Michael: I see you are progressing well, despite the mistakes that always appear and those that you have been able to correct properly. Everything is part of the fun and also serves to exercise the mind and creativity. I see in several of your photos (2017-11.1) that you place the rigging provisionally, leaving them loose and without fastening it to the pin-rails. I think this lends itself to confusion and complicates its placement. What I do is place each rigging on its corresponding pin, although provisionally, inserting each one into the corresponding hole and holding it with the pin (as you have done). This allows to verify the position of the rigging and check if they have enough space between them or do not cross each other or avoid other complications. By the way, to make new holes, I use the drills of the dremel but using a manual drill. Muchos saludos, Karl

Hola Michael: Gracias!! Really this model was quite different of the others I built in several aspects: - the model brand (Model Shipways) with its pros and cons - the type of ship, being this much more modern than the ones I had previously done (This ship was a replica based on an early 19 century type clipper built by Baltimore city officials in 1974. She was lost in an intense blast of wind in 1986. The city then commissioned a larger sister-ship, and the Pride of Baltimore II was launched on 1989) - due to the above, the type of superstructure, hatches, skylights and rigging differs of older ships - the form of presentation: without sails and with the foremast yards slightly rotated - putting it in a dry dock gives it a special touch Saludos, Karl P.S. I am very flattered to know that my Vasa log continue to be of your help to clarify the complicated arrangement of sails and rigging of this boat. It must be said that you are doing a splendid job

Hola Steve: Thank´s for your words, and talking about my next project, sincerely I don´t know what to do: I have more ships (6) than space at my home and my wife insists than I must do something about it, probably trying to sell one or two, or change to my other hobby: oil painting. Saludos Karl

Hi Friends: After a little less than a year I finally finished my Baltimore Pride II. This was my first ship without sails and I showed it as if I were in a dry dock, a different view of all my other models. Here some pic´s: Saludos, Karl

Hola Andy: It's good that you have returned to the POB II. In fact I've spend almost a year since I begun mine "Pride". I think the important thing is not the time but the fun produced modeling and all the activities related to this hobby. In your case you are doing a splendid job and the POB II is getting really well. Saludos, Karl

Hola Ulises: Como decimos: cuando no te llueve te llovizna. (something like: when it does not rain you drizzle) It is very sad to hear about your new inconvenience but I hope in a few more days you will be as new and ready to finish your Royal and begin with the Sovereign of the seas. Saludos, Karl

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
