  1. Frank - let him finish the build before you get him started on another project... :)
  2. Steps look fantastic Rich. I have a lot of clean up to do as well. I take consolation in the fact that our camera's and head magnifier's will be much more discerning than the un-aided eye when the build is under glass. Nice work.
  3. I'll be following with you on this Denis. I have just put primer on my lower mast sections. I have had no time to work her lately. It is nice to see your United States moving along. Double check that deck fit. The hull on my build needed some fine tuning port to starboard to allow the deck to fit laterally. I think the large molded hull sections have a little heat warpage...at least on my kit.
  4. Rich: Just catching up on your log. I have loved reading it. A beautiful ship you are making.
  5. If those life events take you near Charleston you know where I live. Take care my friend.
  6. Evan, very nice work as is usual for this build. I am also very impressed that you were able to muscle that 1 piece gun deck into the formed hull. Superb.
  7. Obviously there is shipwright's blood flowing through those veins...
  8. MIchael (md1400cs) posted this link for cannon. I don't know if it will help or not but it is worth a look. http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/amati-cannon-barrels.html
  9. Electric tooth brush: definitely thinking outside the box Daniel (and worth a try). I would put a soft semi-curved pad between the brush and the paper though. Ideas fly around here. I love this forum!
  10. Can I 'amen' that? My brain was getting tired of figuring out the 'beyond the box' steps so I took a mast break myself. Your build continues to look fantastic Andy.
  11. Just a minor update. I really was getting tired of thinking through getting these decks together and aligned so I took a break and started to glue the mast pieces together. I did get them fairly straight but the real chore is getting the flash trimmed after gluing and drying. I'll get some pics up later.
  12. Hello Rick. I still have a few spares if anyone needs them...just send me a PM.
  13. Ahh...I do see the difference. Thanks. I did not realize the messenger rope diameter was so unwieldy.
  14. Beautiful work Alexandru. A work of art... I do have a question though - and I may show my lack of knowledge here a bit... The anchor cable in the pic above is engaged to the capstan but I thought the cable was hauled by means of a messenger cable attached to the anchor cable. Food for thought.
  15. I have to say Augie from the pics it really is a work of art - beautiful.
  16. The gold makes it stand out. I practice a lot on my spare model as well. I HAVE to. It's been years since I got one together. Keep at it Kim.
  17. I used a very small brush and a large magnifier on the detail. Before you do that though you may want to prime and paint the black plastic as well. I did not - but wish I did. It allows you to go back and paint the black over any mistakes later. Mask off your beautiful copper paint job with Frog tape before spraying the primer. Since I did not paint the black plastic I have limited options. I.e., when I have a little excess paint overflow my only choice is to scrape it off the plastic. It works but it leaves some scratch marks as well.
  18. Well. I've heard of 'snow birds' for the northern winter folk in the south but I don't know what you call a southerner flying up north in the dog days of summer - I guess 'smart'. ...better let go here...hijack territory approaching.
