Greetings Dominic Well you are really buzzing along, and all is looking very good. It might be an idea not to fit the facias to the quarter gallery's yet, but leave them until later to save any possible damage during your build. Check out page2 of Gil middletons log. Well done Dominic, keep enjoying it. DAVID

Greetings Dominic Good that you getting on with the first planking. Yep I found the lime was easy to work with, and made the first planking pretty easy. I only used a strip bender and like Jerry very rarely wet any strips. The lime strip also makes the sanding pretty easy. Keep enjoying it Dominic. DAVID

Greetings young man Hope you are well and enjoyed your last cruise. I have not done any work for the last month but will return soon. Need to see cardiologist, heart needs checking out. Heart rate has been erratic for he last 4month or so. It started off about two year ago but was sorted or so I thought. It starts to race now and then simply reverts to normal. It's was doing 140 a minute all Sunday evening, so I went off to see the doc this morning. Have you decided on a new build yet?? I am following a chap called Dominic (building the Vic) at the minute, and trying to help him fit he's gunport patterns. PMs popping back and forth. I enjoying this very much. Son just came home today for a week. He's had three weeks in Australia and a week in Singapore, he's a teacher in London. Anyway I shall return soon all being well, and I also need to have a look at Lawrence's log which as I said earlier is now into volume 4 and available on Amazon. Take care Jerry. DAVID

Greetings Kevin And welcome back to the most enjoyable phase of the build. Prob telling you the road you know. I would belay rope coils around the masts and other areas before you start any of your rigging to make things easier at the latter stages. The gun deck also needs a few belaying. Good luck and really enjoy yourself..DAVID

Hello Rich Well done, things are going well. The part for the gunport lids are 491 lower gun deck gunport scuttle hinges. When you come to fit your gunport lids check out their configuration before you add the hinges. The lids are wider than deep. You will see what I mean if you measure them on page42. DAVID

Greetings all Well I have completed the butt planking ( I think that's they call it) on the port side, which will be all that is visible once the top deck is fitted. I was left with an infill of 12mm. I used 3 widths of 4mm strip which was adequate once the rough edge was sanded off each strip. I shall now complete the port side planking and then turn to the starboard side. Mort I only used a rule to make those planks. I simply followed Rays technique, but had quite a few rejects. Well I am happy with my progress, and thanks to you all for your comments and for viewing. Well done Mark and Mick explaining the guillotine was used in the printing trade. Here's a few photos. Thanks a lot DAVID

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
