Mkmossop Greetings Tim I've just had a good look around the build logs, and can only find one build log that may be of some help to you. There is an Amati build of the Santa Maria 1/65 scale, which I believe is the same as yours. The builder is called. MKMOSSOP. You could have a word with him, it costs nothing. Any way good luck, and enjoy your build. DAVID

Thanks a lot chaps I did read the fitting of the strops in the channels was a belt and braces job and the importance of securing them. I was not happy with opening up of the slots, any way I will try Dave's idea and see how it goes DAVID

Greetings everyone Well I have finished only one channel over the last three days. I made the decision to start the channels and complete them all on the port side of the ship, then add the brass strip etc and then return to the gunport lids after being advised I may have a problem with channels, with the lids in the way. Absolutely correct ...I had fitted some of the upper deck lids, so I finished them off as they seemed safe from any damage. Famous last words!!!!!!. The fitting of the channels should be easy, but the strops on the dead eyes are as far as I am concerned to short. The lower area of the strop which locates in slots on the channel will not locate correctly, there are two lugs on the stem of the strop which should locate on the underside of the channel to eliminate any pull out during rigging. The stem of the strop is not long enough to allow the lugs to locate. There is also a problem with the chain plate attaching to the hooking area because of the length of the strop. Anyway after improvision I have managed to fit the first channel, but don't know what I shall do about the rest of the channels as the first one is a bit better than poor. OK that's my winge over and done with. Thanks for all your advice and comments and reading my log. Here are a few more photos. Here we go....DAVID

Patrick Yep that's what I used, evo stick instant contact adhesive. I tried ca but it sets to fast. Once you get going its pretty easy, one thing to remember is to clean the contamination from the glue off the top face of the tile as you go, and put all the small pieces in as you come to them, DAVID and don't get complacent do it all the time. Derek got some kind of cleaner he used all the way through he's coppering, I will ask him to tell you what it is. Use a fan all the time. Give me a bell anytime about the glueing DAVID

Yep Dave 100% correct. I shall stop fitting the lids and fit the channels and chain plates etc first, as you correctly pointed out should be done first. Thanks for your advice which is very much appreciated DAVID
