Greetings everybody Well here's my latest update, after finishing the brass profile etc I returned to the gunports and completed the lids, leaving only the lower deck gunport lids to complete. The entry port steps are completed and the fender and chess trees have been added so there is very little to do on the port side now. I need to go back to the deck and fit the buckets. Before starting the channels on the starboard side I think I may return to the bows and do the boomkins and knight head assy, but then again it may be better to get the channels and hull profiles out of the way first, I am not to sure yet. So there we go, that's were I am now. So once again I am pretty happy with things and want to thank you all for viewing advice and comments......here are a few photos of my progress , the trouble with photos of this stage are they are all becoming a much of a muchness gunports and lids. Well I am off to do fifteen gunport lids!!!!!!!!! See you all later . Here's some photos Regards DAVID

Hello yon Well done on the artificial gunports . I have been looking at them, and it looks like I cannot fit one of them as the the continuation of the cat head is not fitted correctly and impedes ( gets in the way) of the port. Not to worry, I noted that not many builders have bothered fitting them at all. If I do the lower ones I will just use an overlay of marquetry veneer to create the window effect. What I would like to know is were does the handrail start an terminate for the netting at the bows. Anyway well done and keep enjoying the build DAVID

Hello Patrick You are really doing well, and I agree with you on the planking it can look really over the top sometimes, overwhelming as you say with simulation. All I do is simply fit them plank to plank just touching, not tight up to each other. So keep up the good work and enjoy your build . Keep sending your photos. DAVID

Hello yon Welcome back from your world tour of Barbados!!. Well thats a surprise to me, I have never had a prob with CMB orders. Well I will be back to the gunport lids tonight, just a tidy up on painting. I made a right mess on the channels and knocked 2 gunport lids off. But I got a post off Dave ( artificer) warning me I was going the wrong way about things. Anyway the way to go is locate the channels with pins, not glued, fit all your brass profile and paint all the areas around channels and chainplates, then assemble all your dead eyes and chainplates on the channels, but not on the ship. Then locate and glue the channels on the ship. Regards DAVID

Hello hank You probably know the 1/98 mantua is the art776. There is one build on the site as far as I know. GEORGEK is building it, and may help you. I have in the past month given a partiall build of the same ship to the brother in law . The manual is rubbish but does have a complete parts list, and two double sided plans, and it is definitely on line somewhere. I was looking at it some weeks ago, but alas I cannot locate it again after a long search. I surmise although your kit is old, the list of parts will be more or less similar. I will have another look around and see if I can locate it..... I look forward to watching your build grow .......regards DAVID

Kevin At last back with your build in a new dry dock. I would just lift the gunport lids above horizontal and shorten the ropes which Seems to be the norm. Anyway welcome . Regards DAVID

Greeting everybody Thanks for all your help and comments which are always a help. I have all but finished the port side apart from the gunport lids. There are a few other bits and pieces to add and painting to tidy up. I made a big mistake by fitting the chain plates and some of the gun port lids before being warned by Dave ( artificer) thanks a lot. The way to go is get the channels in place loose fitted and then fit all the Brass profile. Paint the hull at least around the area were the chain plates fit. Do that before you even think about adding the channels chainplates and gunport lids. I think that is the kind of order you should do it. I think any builders who have got this far will agree. I have added a few photos showing my slow progress, all down to my own mistakes making problems for myself. Here come the photos. Thanks for viewing DAVID

Hello Patrick Snap !!!!! just about every body broke them, even Gil the jig!!! I believe he also used styrene. Anyway you appear to been doing well. Yes it is easy to mistakes by not following the manual which I have just found, by installing gunport lids before the channels Luckily I got a warning but still broke off two lids. It's good to have some one watching you. Enjoy you build DAVID

Hello derek I can see we're you are coming from on the strops. If the stem was longer it would allow the lugs to hook around the underside of the channel, and eliminate the widening of the location slots. I have tried artificers ( Dave's ) idea of widening of the slots and using a nail as a stop for the lugs, but it is obvious keeping the slots narrow is the most safe option. DAVID
