I am always impressed that your rigging doesn't end up in a tangle - one look from me and thread puts itself in a knot.

 

In your last photos of the ship standing on a block of wood I can see a thin white layer. Is that a piece of double sided tape?

Yes Ian, in this case, I used double-sided tape for fixing of the ship.

Sometimes a kind of tangle thread scares me too, but in the end everything falls into place. )

Hello Igor,

 

The photos of the cloth make it appear to be rather heavy.  How thin is it?  When I am going to make a Dutch fishing boat in a lamp then I will need very fine cloth.

 

To answer your question about what boat I plan to put inside a lamp, that'll be a Botter.  I plan to put it inside a 6 inch or 152.4 mm with a 18 mm opening.  I like the old working boats that were used on the former Zuider Zee.  It could also be an other type out of a choice of 6.  I have the drawings of only a few though.

The model will have to be done in pieces because of the small opening.  These boats are rather wide on the beam.

 

This model is from about 1920 at a scale of 1:20

Thanks Igor, yes, I like these Dutch working boats, especially the Botter as shown or Kotter.  They are not too complex for a bottle or lamp when compared with a Staen Jacht or VOC Jacht.

That is an interesting way to make tiny brass rings. It produces a great result. 

 

Can you clear up a few things for me?

 

Is that brass rod (not tube) that you are annealing in the 2nd photo?

 

If so in the 4th photo are you reaming out a hollow in the rod with a broach? I can see that it would be tricky to stop it wandering off centre.

Hi Ian!

In this case, I used the medical steel needle with a diameter of about 0.5 mm. In fact I could not find a brass tube diameter is less than 0.8 mm, but the needle may has a diameter of 0.3 mm.

This is no rod )) I use a conventional needle to handle edge of the tube. So I rule out the sharp edges of the tube, which can cut the thread.

I often use medical needles of different diameters for my models. I did portholes, davits, gears for winches, mast's elements, etc.
