Le Mirage by Sjors - FINISHED - Corel - Wood - 1:75

Recommended Posts

Yes, all questions answered.  Funny though, I went to the zoo just the other day..... wild animal sanctuary actually.  Great minds think alike.

OK, you go work on gunports.  Do any of them have canons behind them or is Le Mirage just a paper tiger?

Augie,

At the moment i'm typing on the I-pad of Anja, so no smileys....

The lids are above the canons.

It's not a paper ship!

But a lot of work....so still no rigging.

you know Sjors if you had started the rigging and you  get too frustrated you can go back to those things you havent done yet . that would give you a bit of variety. now you have to do it all together.

i havent done any real rigging but i think id actualy enjoy it. just tying knots and not having to think soulds goot to me.

a while back when painting the canons for the uss connie . i was at for 4 hours straight wihtout realising :)

Wow, how'd I get so far behind on this one log again.

Nice job on the masts and even better job putting off shrouds and ratlines :D

That bowsprit, when mounted by itself looked like a hook waiting to catch a sleeve. The sooner the shrouds are up the more stable she will be ... just keep repeating that, maybe that'll help.

Looking good, can't wait to see her with standing rigging, she's gonna look Awesome.

Hi Adrieke and Keith,

@ Adrieke,

I have still the San Ildefonso when I have enough of tying knots…...

These are not the first ratlines that I make so I like it a little bit  :D

@ Keith,

Thanks, I think you have to visit from time to time to see what's happened.

I know for sure ( but I hope not) that is goes wrong once with the bowsprit.

Even when the rigging is done it could happened.

That's part of building.

But I'll do my best to avoid that!

Hi Sjors,

By the time I got to the end of the thread, I forgot what my question was...... .....

Oh yeah!  Avoiding rigging......not sure you answered it but that's okay, I'll just wait for the pictures! :D

Cheers,

Jim

By the way, we are about to apply for the permits so we can start the remodeling.  Remember when you said you could build a house in the time our remodel will take?  I bet you could build one in the time it is taking to just get the permits!

Hi Jim,

It's difficult to see if a question is answered but yes/no .

A few more things to do and then I go to the rigging…..

Congrats with your permit.

That is gonna take a while before you have that.

Now you make some other sawdust.

Good luck with it.

And don't stay away to long from your shipyard.

Then a little PS from me…...

Because I have to work for a living and not have the free time as just some other builders here on the forum, my time is little to work on the Mirage.

I also have a wife that needs attention ( now and then )

Then I also have to arrange things for a guy who named Mobbsie.

And of course, I have to read and answer things on a forum that called MSW!

When I'm doing this, I'm not at the shipyard.

I wish you all a pleasant building time and let those pictures coming!

Don't worry Sjors, we all fully understand. I hope we haven't crossed a line somewhere, it's all meant in good fun. Take all the time you need. Just remember that when I'm at work, I can't to a d*** thing for months... and well.. you can imagine how that feels. (I'd insert Mr Wacko smiley.... but I don't have one...)

No Andy, You haven't.

For me it was also a joke….maybe a wrong one because I just came out of my bed when I'm writing that.

When I read all of the stuff you have post on my I-Phone when I was at work last night, my passengers are looking strange at me, because I was laughing in myself.

When you crossed a line, no worries, I tell you that!

Definitely have to agree with Robbyn on your humor! And I think I really like rule number 5: "Help each other with the ratlines, don't let the builder do it alone!"

And when it's time for ratlines on my build everyone can help me. :)

Morning Robbyn,

Thanks…..it make me feel good when I can put a smile on someones face  :D

This is the first time that I'am a daily routine…….

Maybe that's why i always have fun on the bus.

When the passenger is coming in with a long face, a little joke and his\her day is good and so do mine!

But I have to say it………first I need a cup of coffee in the morning ,otherwise I'm not in a good mood!

Looking nice Sjors.  Hope those upper canon don't play havoc with the shrouds when fired.  I guess that's why those gun crews are called 'Top Guns'  :o

Hi Augie,

It's the only way I can get them this way.

I have to see how it works when I put the shrouds on.

The other 2 chainplates are also at the ship.

Now I have to figure out how I can put the gunport lids on…..

I have two without a rope.

There is no place anymore for that.

Don't worry about it.  Ships of later eras did not put guns over the channels because they figured out this damaged the shrouds.  We just build them as they made them!

Yea a picture :dancetl6:

Ive always wondered why they placed guns amongest shrouds, guess they slowly learn what to do and not to do with time. On some ships the lower deck is mixed in close to the chain's also. I guess the logic was more guns, forget the rigging. Wonder if any ship ever took its own rigging out?

Nice job Sjors

Sjors,

Nice pic! :)

But I'd be a little concerned about balance with so many cannon on such a small hull section...14!!!!  Imagine a roller hitting the side and all the cannonballs rolling the same way.  The brass monkeys would be hurting..... :D

Cheers,

Thanks Augie,Keith and Jim,

@ Augie,

Thanks, I feel a lot better :D

I thought I was making a mistake.

But when I look at other builds, a lot have those things that the shrouds are close by the canons.

@ Keith,

I was asking that question myself.

Those canons are not in business right now, a kind of dummy canons  :P

@ Jim,

Now you know why she has cotton canon balls…….

I think that the builders are not concerned about weight but just ….how many canons can I put on a ship before she sinks……..
