Your planking is looking good, the stern should clean up nicely. I will also pull up a chair and watch  if you don't mind.

Thanks, that's hard work not being confident of the turnout. One coat of sand and sealer to go to protect from dings to come before moving up the hull.

This is the RB 29mm cannon on the kit carriage, I think it looks OK, would appreciate any thoughts/advice.

I looked at this during my build and I finally settled on RB32mm guns and the 15mm for the Swivels.

However, the 29mm look fine as well on the carriage, and once they are all together along the broadside I don't think they will look undersized, I just preferred a slightly chunkier look.

This is the comparison I made when deciding on my build, and as you can see the Syren version is finer still than the RB 29mm.

Thanks for the comment, when the 32 are available I'm going to get them as it's low cost and then I can decide.

did you line the gun Ports? What were the final dimensions of your finished ports?

The gun port size is as per the pattern, and I lined them with some 0.6mm boxwood strip. However, were I doing the model again I would have made the first port, which is in fact a Bridle port, (not a gun port), narrower to 8.50mm, and side hinged the port lid.

I didn't line the Sweep ports.

Hi Paul -- I just now found your log, and have caught up.  You're doing very nicely.  Once you've passed the gunport strip (sort of the initiation into Victory Swans), and the planking, you get to start on the really fun bits.

Not been doing much as the garden and other jobs can't be put off. I purchased a few blocks and rope from Syren, top notch, the blocks are outstanding even without a tumble. 

Only gripe is the UK Post office sticking on an £8.00'handling charge.

Measured and estimated, drawings could detail this feature much better, time will tell.

Slow progress, not happy with the small ports but I simply couldn't get a sharp outline.

Some colour added, coat of sand sealer to deepen the colour, will finish with a Matt varnish at the end.

Anyone else had to build up the rear gunwales to match the drawing re fitment  of the etched decoration and the 1mm strip or perhaps it an error I've built in.

Paul -- I had to fiddle with the gunwales all round, even though I didn't put the decoration on.  I needed the room for the swivel gun mounts and some of the eye-bolts.

 

Nice planking there!  it all looks smooth and regular.

Definitely not wide as the strips sit right on the photoetch high points

I looked a Blue Ensigns build, if you look at page 2 mine looked like his with the top red border not parallel, so I measured from the plans and added a splice to make it 4mm as per the drwg and as his page 3. I have checked that all the windows side and rear fit as per his build.

Been off this for a good while.

Coppering completed ones side, installed a moulding to top off the top edges.

not happy overall, wish I’d gone for a white paint finish, ah well. Hope the other half comes out better and can display that side.
