Hi All,

Thought I'd share my Bluenose II Build a few Years ago.

My second ever build with guidance from Mr Earl. (Definitely not deceased!! :))

So, some photos in the may provide some inspiration/guidance to others. Hope the photos are in some semblance of order.

I seem to have issues with the "Edit" but wished to extend my regards to John Earle in putting me on the Modelling path that has kept my "Nose Clean" for many years.

If i can "Wax Lyrical" the Hobby has kept me well "Grounded" for many years and issues. (Meditation in my Ship Room, if you will.)

Cheers....HOF.

Congratulations on completing your Bluenose.  You did an excellent job on building this model.  John Earle has a lot of valuable information on his website and I have seen his techniques used by other modelers.

Very nicely done Hof.  I'm looking closely at your deck furniture for ideas as I'm just at that point now and am trying to decide on finishing and finishes.  The natural wood colours look good.  I wondered about planking the cabin tops - did you consider it?  Also the walls of my  cabin love k odd because of the tabs for assembling.  Yours look fine - how did you finish them?

All your rigging looks good - I can only hope mine will be half as well done!

Thanks for sharing.

Doug

Hi Chap,

Thanks for the reply and compliment.

The Cabin Tops are "Planked" with "Ramin?" (May be a little difficult to see from the photos.)

The Skylights also have a Walnut Veneer on them.

Deckhouse sides planked with Walnut also. (Tabs got covered up.)

Port Light/Holes are aftermarket from Hobby World, Montreal. (Glassed Brass, I had to have something better than the A/L offering)

Rigging was Simplified as per Mr Earl's instructions.

Anything that I can help with, I'll try my best to assist.

Cheers....HOF.

Hard to tell from the pictures - thanks for the detail.  I'll go the planking route for sure.  I'll see what I can do with the skylights - fiddly little structures.

 Cheers

You made it to the finish. Rather nice work. A pity we have to do without all the hardships, and questions, and redo's. Still a great feat mate

Any ideas about the next build?

Cheers

Hi Carl,

Thanks for that.

BNII was my second attempt at building a Model Ship.

This was complete a few Years ago but the Model Ship Forum that it was initially on shut down.

Since there are several BNII Builds in flight at the mo. I thought it opportune to resurrect my BNII build log in the hope that it will assist.

(Still working on the Pen Duick.)

Cheers....HOF.

nice looking model Hof.  a friend of mine had a Billing's Bluenose that he couldn't finish due to illness.  so I traded some hobby supplies for it.......it didn't fare too well in transit.  besides the damage,  I found a mistake with the instructions,  with the help of a fellow member here.   I ended up tearing it apart,  but from it,  I was able to clone two other hull frames.   so it has turned into a project,  that will be three schooners....the Bluenose,  the Bluenose II,  and the America {I had to cut out the cockpit for that hull}.  should be an interesting build,  once I can get it off the ground.

I'll be sure to add your to the list of logs to look in on ;)

I yam wot I yam!

finished builds:
Billings Nordkap 476 / Billings Cux 87 / Billings Mary Ann / Billings AmericA - reissue
Billings Regina - bashed into the Susan A / Andrea Gail 1:20 - semi scratch w/ Billing instructions
M&M Fun Ship - semi scratch build / Gundalow - scratch build / Jeanne D'Arc - Heller
Phylly C & Denny-Zen - the Lobsie twins - bashed & semi scratch dual build

Billing T78 Norden

in dry dock:
Billing's Gothenborg 1:100 / Billing's Boulogne Etaples 1:20
Billing's Half Moon 1:40 - some scratch required
Revell U.S.S. United States 1:96 - plastic/ wood modified / Academy Titanic 1:400
Trawler Syborn - semi scratch / Holiday Harbor dual build - semi scratch
