Managed to finish the Main Upper Topsail Yard and get it squared, rigged and completed today. Belaying lines is getting to be a challenge....it's getting crowded...lol. Time to put the Magician's Hat on I guess..

Finished up the Main Topgallant Yard and hung it off on the mast. Still needs to be squared and rigged -- 6 more lines.

The Main Mast is complete except braces and the Fore Lower Yard is partially detailed and dry hung for reference.

Yes, about that...I really am tired of being a spectator - but my wife and I have had other projects to work on around the house:  FROG upgrade, van repair, organizing closets...the list goes on and on. I really can't wait to open the yard back up - but for now I will have to pending the rest. 

 

At least, if I am relegated to spectating, you guys here on MSW have great stuff to follow.

For some reason I have procrastinated securing the anchors. I've done everything else, but just bypassed this. Since I'm now working in the bow area it's time to bite the bullet and just do it! After that I pre rigged the Fore Lower Yard, painted it and glued it in place. I did not square it or rig it ....that's tomorrow.

Well today I managed to get a few things done. The Fore Lower Yard is completed. I got it rigged, mounted and squared with the lifts. Been a busy day, as any of you that got a drawplate from me as they got shipped out today. Still 2 left. The chain sheet lines are an interesting feature of how this ship was rigged as well as the double topsail sails. Three yards to go. Hard to believe they will be the last physical parts to be installed....The end is really approaching....then what????? Details once again are on my website for anyone interested.

Hi Piet, thanks for the kudos. No, I don't intend to build a case for her - unfortunately I don't have the room for one. I have an actual large piece of rough cut wood from the Bowsprit of the real Morgan that I intend to make into a base for mounting it.

Today was Bunt Lines, and Sheet & Clew Lines. Then got started on the Fore Lower Topsail Yard.

Hi John,

 

She's becoming a real beauty mate, your rigging is fast becoming the rope jungle we know and love. 

 

Its a shame about the case but I think space or the lack of it is a problem familiar to most of us, the base when completed will reflect I'm sure, the super job your doing.

 

The end is in sight mate, it's exciting to be at this stage of a build but also a little sad and the end comes on so quickly, then the question " What Next".

 

Keep up this excellent work my friend.

Hi Tony, yes it is actually sad, once the other 2 yards are done, I'll be finished with the last parts to make, other than some more lines for the braces, then finishing up...hard to believe, but the journey actually seems short as it has occupied my life for 2-1/2 years now....wow...melancholy moment....still probably about a month...

Yesterday and today I managed to finish all of the yards and their rigging. Here is the overall photo and for those interested in the detailed construction can go to my website for details. The end is definitely getting closer, still have the braces and some rigging on the Bowsprit yet, then the cutting in stage and finishing details including mount and securing the boats.

John your ship looks great. My question on the rigging is, how are you keeping from bumping lines you have installed while putting in more lines? I'm a long ways from that stage, but I have fumble hands and I know I will be knocking something loose when I do start.

Hi Greg, I use the following tools to maneuver around the rigging. I take my time moving around, since a second saved here could be an hour of trying to fix things. I still knock things off and break things - it's part of the fun! I knocked n "upside down" block off a few days ago and wasn't sure I was going to get it to re-glue therefore, having to rip something out....but CA Glue and Accelerator fixed that - lucky. The worst thing can be "kinky" lines that remember their coil...hard to stretch and hard to keep out of everything in it's path. Just gotta be careful my friend - and patient. Good luck.
