for rigging depending on what you intend to achieve, you could get away with 0.25. 0.5,  and  1.0 mm threads

I have a range of threads  from the different builds  like my  Greyhound / Peregrine / Pearl,  just learning the artistry  that  the  amazing folk do in here with the whole rigging magic.

There are a few blokes in the UK you could visit. Maybe they will take your hand and show you the ropes :)

I don't think you need to worry OC. I am pretty certain that there are people watching who will be able to pretty much help you through almost anything you need. Plus I suspect that you probably already have most , if not all the skill you will need to get it done.

So who's presents are you wrapping? You have been telling us that the Pearl is for the wife. You already spent a bunch of money on yourself for a new battery! Are you sneaking in a few more goodies like a little pirate hooch you aren't telling us about?

don't worry OC........there are plenty of folks here that can give you pointers.   another thing you can do,  is look up rigging diagrams online.......I'm also sure there is something out there.  you don't need to be too detailed.......as long as you have all the important rigging,  it will still be an impressive model.   does the instructions have rigging diagrams?   I have the Revell Santa Maria....an old kit....should be close enough.  I can snap some photos of the rigging diagrams and send them to you if you'd like........in a PM,  or here on the log.

Yep  there are rope diagrams in the instructions - but I guess its like hull planking  where it takes experience till you do it the right way.

I was intrigued with your concerns about the rigging,  so I downloaded a copy of the instructions.   quite an interesting vessel........I also downloaded the Caribbean Pirate ship instructions #0386.   that model doesn't even hold a candle to the one your building!  there is some great detail in the rigging of the Black Swan........really show what I've been saying about the standing rigging and how the running rigging depends on it.   the Santa Maria rigging is not even close either,  I don't think.   you are building a wonderful model here........heck,  I may even be on the look out for it  :)

Evening all,   I havn't been on the last couple of days  internet issue  - anyway  next stage with captain sparrows old ship  led me into the area of the rope support rods that stick out of the bulkhead protrusions,   firstly I had to carefuly drill a hole through the center of each protrusion/post, this went well with poop deck but when I did the same to the forecastle  - "upsee - daisy"  a  broke a  few posts  but always onwards  - so I just fitted some pins in anyway - they now just need paint and ropes.

Evening all,    more progress today  inbetween playing with the dog,   I  found the right thickness of thread - then started to attach the handrail ropes,  these runs were tied off at both ends with loops and pva inbetween, when all were done I applied some paint to blend them in.

I think they turned out ok - even the  odd ones.

Was planning to attack the gun ports/ropes today  but instead I spent  some time in A/E  at the hospital with the wife, as she had a  bad spell with her health and I had to call  999, they sent out a First Responder  who checked her over and  rang for an ambulance,  we were taken on the hour ride in an ambulance to hospital and arrived home after getting a taxi  after 11pm.

So slightly different day/evening.
