steamschooner Posted March 13, 2019 #1 Posted March 13, 2019 Well I decided that I would revisit a model that has been sitting on my shelf for 20 years or more. I got the plans for this boat from Motor Boating Ideal series of books/ plans ca. 1938 It was long before I had a pc and internet. One of the reasons I stopped work on it was because I just did not have enough info on the cockpit area. It was also a lesson in using veneers. So now I can research this class of hydroplane and get something going on finishing it up. If I am remembering correctly this was a Hacker design. Following pictures show what I have left after 20 plus years. lmagna Posted March 13, 2019 #2 Posted March 13, 2019 That will make a pretty interesting model. No one hears much of step hulled hydroplanes any more. They were pretty much just non flying seaplane hulls, or floats without the aircraft. Thanks Bruce & John for the links, still looking for a little more info on cockpit layout but since these were owner built or built for owners they must have all been different. So I should be ok however I layout the cockpit, It's my boat right? I have added a Burgee and a club pendent which I made from paper, printed both sides than glued together and mounted on staffs. The boat has been renamed It is now called Miss Mabel. The reason for that is that this little burg I live in is called Lebam. The first postmaster wanted to name this whistle stop after his daughter (Mabel) to which she did not want. So he reversed the spelling and the town of Lebam it became. I thought it only fitting that I rename by boat by reversing Lebam and calling it Miss Mabel. I had something like that in mind for some time, an early post-WWI type with a visible marinised surplus aero-engine - very detailed aero-engine kits have come onto the market for 1/48 WWI aircraft modellers.
