I made two waifs using a visible red color.  I painted some “sail” cloth and rolled them onto the poles.

I forgot to mention the making of the hatchet in my last post. The waifs and hatchet can be seen in the following pictures. 63018C5D-2E1A-414A-A4D6-78A56FA804BF.thumb.jpeg.09c8fbacbd51ef03a1d141fe3045bff1.jpegF7F3A19B-318E-43CE-9BF1-AB08A7EAAA8C.thumb.jpeg.31aacccd5c3057201f48f9669426005d.jpeg5F4D91F5-1912-4A44-BB43-D323E40EC61A.thumb.jpeg.db04050ecb04dd78bbdb2d2298e54a8f.jpeg

The last item in completing the Whaleboat was the sail. I was in a quandary whether to have a raised sail or a wrapped sail as shown on the kit box (see post #1).  I decided on the latter as it will fit my display (to be shown later when completed) as well as the following pictures which I found on the internet (no source was found).EC3AAAF4-EDC3-4DE1-B479-15777D968803.thumb.png.381b26f33db90535a5134ed1a3aa3f0b.png4CD4D45E-A01C-49C3-AF06-A80E510BF3CA.thumb.png.8d42213be1deef1d4488e2abcefe110b.pngC9D6FD77-0748-4200-9F1B-AFFC0FEBED11.thumb.png.2229aed43ca29a5aa989722b90a9259f.png

My finished sail is shown below. 25522133-CE8E-4311-B9E5-83232A8A23ED.thumb.jpeg.15682a29f3a603efc0e6040e3c44aa09.jpeg

I have finally finished the New Bedford Whaleboat. In line with the pictures in my last post, I have mounted my whaleboat  on a whale 🐋 The picture of whalers in a whaleboat on a whale with sail tucked away was excellent inspiration for my final display.84D5C2F2-8DEF-473F-BED5-0A44210FFE4A.thumb.jpeg.8bd17a43f6f2703daa023257343576ff.jpegFA48DFA6-3CF5-4EC9-8801-FFFD665831AF.thumb.jpeg.7a07f05508a5cd872f08920179a2396d.jpeg2CA67B07-6407-4995-A05C-2C3E53D31916.thumb.jpeg.85002980befae7beafae6abf12ca0ec3.jpeg0FA73D11-681C-4CBB-B1C9-C36CA94299C7.thumb.jpeg.c90d8011840fd2b698f91b1b4b4c30e6.jpegCB9EEB92-E49F-49BA-B0C9-5CBD3DE934EB.thumb.jpeg.8e0350f2e0e90f4829b2c90ffe1acbaf.jpeg7D4349A9-F207-47B4-BE37-96442F0C3D07.thumb.jpeg.f8637fb1c3a6e287d34a14ff10b852fe.jpegB5566202-C257-4BA5-9E94-BC2CC0677B2E.thumb.jpeg.b7b0c91d61b9d2cc0568b66fb61ba0a7.jpeg

Thanks for looking and for all your comments. This has been a fun build and one which added more to my skill and confidence bag.  My next project will be Model Shipways Gatling Gun.

Take care in insuring that your whale has actually been properly 'saddle-broke' prior to blindly trusting it to give that beautiful 'whaleboat' a gentle ride! 😲

"Great Job!"

Hi guys.  I’m building the same model but I can’t figure out what to do for the Lance Tails.  What were they?   What were they used for?   I’d like to make mine look authentic but to What?

Went back to my New Bedford Whaleboat and decided to raise the sail. No log steps but I have some parting shots.

Great job! So much detail... The sail is perfect and mounting it on the whale is genius!
