Old Collingwood Posted October 1, 2023 Author Share #2402 Posted October 1, 2023 Morning - evening all, just another small update - I am still brush top coating my stash (I have about 80 to do) what I do is to work on as many figures for the free bottles I have that I used to stand them on, them in the day light I give them a quick coat and leave them for 24hrs before giving them a second coat - then after removing them off the bottles - on to the next group, my phones wasn't charged so no pics. Old Collingwood Posted October 9, 2023 Author Share #2406 Posted October 9, 2023 (edited) Evening all, I have decided in the absence of any Flat Coat Lacquer, I will re paint quite a few of the French arms, (as they are standing out the most and still slightly shiny like satin) my idea is based on the French uniforms where mainly a very dark Black - Blue, and tended to vary, what I will do is to use my Matt Black and add some Matt Blue at a ratio of say Eight drops Black to Two drops Blue, that way it should come out a nice Flat darker shade of Blue and may not need top coat lacquering until I can get some more lacquer for the rest of them. Old Collingwood Posted October 12, 2023 Author Share #2409 Posted October 12, 2023 Evening all, I did a bit more today - first thing I did though was to get my LED light out (only for an hour due to electric costs) I changed over my group of painted French for another group then I mixed some more darkened Blue and with my fine tip brush, I brushed over the Blue areas the put them a side to dry. The colour certainly is improving and the flat coat should do the trick when it arrives. OC. Old Collingwood Posted October 21, 2023 Author Share #2422 Posted October 21, 2023 Hi all, I am currently playing around with the correct shade to my Horse bodies - mane and tails, as many photos show then to have a slight sheen to their coat and not be dead flat, I have a satin varnish shade I can use - I just don't wont them too shiny. I am also taking into account how dirty they would have been from all the mud and the heavy rain over night. But think full on dead flat wont cook it. Old Collingwood Posted November 19, 2023 Author Share #2430 Posted November 19, 2023 Morning all, just been surfing the net when I came across a bit of info about Napoleon - after his defeat at Waterloo and his surrender to Captain Frederick Maitland of HMS Bellerophon off Rochefort in 1815, he was taken to Plymouth Sound UK where he remained on board, 26 July – 4 August, while his future was decided. This event caused a local and national sensation as thousands took to the water, here is a painting showing his holding before his departure. I think it was very interesting due to my build and also our previous past living in Plymouth over looking the Sound Harbour.
