A tank without wheels, is like a pub without beer 😜

Plenty of them round by us at the moment  - gov came up with a clever idea that they should not sell alcohol  only soft drinks to  put people off going.😒

Evening all,   some nice work today  on the side reactive skirts, these were assembled the primed the other day,  today I painted on some thin layers of Nato Green, then after drying I brushed on some layers of dirt wash, I then removed most of this using thinners, then I used the pin wash to show the panel lines  - after this was dried I followed up with some dry brushing.

Evening all  -  Track time  the whole track system is movable  with swivelling links  - there is a template base  to construct the links on, the idea is start at one end doing a link at a time  - there is only about 120 links each track......

Inded mate - after I have the exact length by testing aroundf the running gear  - I will then do an over all sand/alum  colour for the links mainly, then I will pick out the treads with Nato Black  then they will have a couple of washes and finished off with some dry brushing.

They should be this kind of colour   before weathering  -

Pretty close to spot on, Brother....

Links and outer surfaces dark grey with heavy washes of dirt with rubber colored pads, inside color would be washed out grey with black on the tyre running surfaces from rubber transfer......

My TUSK 2 Abrams showed up a while back, but sitting on the shelf until I get my cataract issued resolved. One good eye, one bad eye right now makes it difficult to work very long on anything. Happily, my left eye will be done Monday.  Until sometime later in the week, all I can do is read the instructions and gaze at the bazillion sprues in a rather large box.

My kit is the same as EG's. Sandbox one for me with the TUSK II. Maybe get some Cav decals. I worked with the 3rd of the 7th Cav in Germany once upon a time. Custer's Own.

The right eye is healed up, but my glasses are wrong for that eye now. It seems better without any glasses.  Things seem a touch brighter and definitely sharper. Although the eye surgeon says I'll be good for distance and may need readers for close. 😁

Well the kit decals for the 1st of the 22nd IR, an M1A2sep/Tusk II, Baghad 7/08 in desert sand....

Then a generic 68th AR in Iraq, undated, an M1A2sep/Tusk I in desert sand....

and finally a generic 1st of the 35th AR, an M1A1 Tusk in euro brown, green, dark grey camo, (with sand colored tusk panels).

The instructions for the 2 different M1A2's are combined, (and printed in black) so you need to watch for the changes between the two versions...

And the M1A1 instructions are in the back printed in green with different modifications needed to build the earlier version........

I"d be willing to do the M1A1 version, if you all can stand hand painted camo....

Works for me, too. OC, you did up the tracks without paint? Be interesting how they will articulate after painting.

I think as long as the paint layers are thin they should still move  - might also need a little bit of a  "wiggle"  to free them up a bit.

Just make sure they are fully dry before "wiggling" them..... Another thing to consider, one thin coat as a base color and dry brush the rest.... you will avoid most of the paint sticking issues that way.... There is a lot of consideration given to washes but the issues with washes stem from their ability to flow into all the nooks and crannies, a good thing with fixed static parts not good with parts that are supposed to be flexible....

In the end, the overall flat coat will stiffen the tracks anyway, but you don't need stiff when your mounting them....
