Parking the Arado is just fine. They were moved all over the place, perhaps not while on-mission. Bismarck could ship up to 6 Arados but that would have meant storing two outside, not very practical.

Also, just for fun, Bismarck’s builders plate was just above the doors on the aft hanger. I have a drawing of it, if you guys are interested.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for that, appreciated.

I'm still "Procrastinating." regarding the second Arado placement. 🙂

I would very much like to have a look at a diagram of the Builders Plate, thank you.

A question for you,

I'm picking the Bow/Stern Flagstaff paint should be the Darker "Sea Grey" since that is the color of the Bow/Stern extremities of the Ship.

(I am thinking that the Main Deck Railings in these areas need to be this Grey also?)

Thoughts?

Cheers and Regards,

Harry.

Hi All,

Small update:

  • Interception Grids Installed
  • Propeller Guards installed
  • Paint Touch-Ups continue.

Things left to do:

  • Main Rail installation
  • Anchor Bouy installation
  • Port Side Arado installation
  • Pennants
  • Flagstaff installation

(I think that's it.)

I did hit a "Snag" though, my Airbrush decided to fall apart.

I have ordered a "Budget" replacement after seeing Banyan's post:

Amazon.com: NEOECO Multi-Purpose Airbrush Kit, Dual-Action Gravity Feed Air Brush Sets with with Crown Nozzle, 9cc 20cc 40cc Cup, 0.2, 0.3 & 0.5mm Needles for Makeup Nail Art Shoes Tattoo Cake Toy Model : Arts, Crafts & Sewing

I think this will be o.k. (Arrives hopefully, in the first week of March.)

Anyway, I can still move forward as I have pre-painted/polyurethaned railings prior to Air-Brush issues.

I'll post some photos later today.

Cheers....HOF.

Greetings!

I believe the railings remained the same color as the superstructure. These were pretty hard to see at a distance, and didn’t really warrant the extra work of repainting the stanchions. The flagstaff and jackstaff were removed for Rhine Exercise,  as was the bow anchor. So you can leave them off if you like. I believe these were also painted the same as the railing and superstructure.

Here is the builder’s plate and plate location. In 1/200, you have to include it!

Thans Joe!!

Great that I don't rave to repaint.

I agree, it would be nice to install the plate. don't know where I'll find an appropriate Decal.

Maybe, I can try and reduce what you have sent me and print it out??

Could do. If it were me, I’d just paint a black rectangle there, and let it stand in for the plate. It’s between those two vents anyway, just a nod that you knew it was there. It’d be pretty hard to read anyway.

I’m not sure I’ve mentioned this before, I’ve been helping a few folks with their Bismarck models lately, but don’t forget the oil stains. The starboard fuel hose exploded at the end of refueling in Poland, causing a huge mess down her side. The port side was similarly stained because of poor housekeeping when disconnecting. These stains were present until the end. Goes to show just how messy bunker oil is! I never see these stains modeled, which is a shame. A conversation starter for sure.

Also, just for fun, this is the original concept model for Bismarck. You can see how she would have looked with the straight stem, and her superstructure was vastly different. Essentially an enlarged Scharnhorst. I think she looked better in her original lines myself. The Atlantik bow, especially Bismarck’s retrofitted bow, is a little too curvy.

Many thanks OC,

Yup, a bit of patience, a good "Primer" for me regarding PE.

Shame I couldn't do the Rigging myself but my partner did a very fine job indeed!!

At this stage, I think not too, too bad with 1.5 arms.... 🙂

I too am looking forward to doing the Flags.

Hi All,

Small update:

Admirals Flag, War Flag and Stern Flag completed.

The War Flag does not to align itself with the ship, never mind.

Stern Flag test fitted.

I'll give the Admirals Flag and Stern Flag some "Creases" later.

So, I guess it's time to get some courage and install the Main Deck Rails.

Cheers....HOF.

Hi HoF00

i was searching for PDF’s of the assembly instructions and came across an old post of yours from 2021 saying you’d downloaded them from the Model space page and posted the link.

the link no longer exists.

I don’t suppose you still have these files do you?

best regards

Hi Peter,

As discussed by E-Mail, you should now have in your possession all 140 installments of instructions.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Ps. Are we going to see another Bismarck build anytime soon? 🙂

Very small update:

I'm still here and so is the Bismarck.

I'll be pre-painting the Rail Stanchions shortly for the Main Deck.

(The PE Railing that I purchased was not suitable at all.... I thought I was going to make my life less complicated, but I should have known better. 🙂)

Anyway, I now have to mark-out and drill a couple of hundred holes for the individual Stanchions.

(Needs must I guess. 🙂)

I hope to have something "Positive" in the next few days.

Cheers....HOF.

Hi Ian,

Yup!!

I am, the Aber Railing looked good but the Stanchion spacing was just "Out to lunch!!" (For instance. from the Hawse Holes to the end of Decking at the Bow is 50.0mm There are six Stanchions that occupy this space, two "Double" and four "Single" in between, so 50.0mm divided by four - 12.5mm)

I have decided on a default spacing of 10.0mm but there are places along the length of the Deck where this will change, Fairleads, Cleats. etc.

I'll space and "Pilot" with my trusty Dividers. (Set Type Dividers??)

That's the plan anyway.

I'll be drilling lots of small holes.... 🙂

Cheers and Regards,

Harry.

Hi targa4403,,

No, no indications on the Deck, this is a pre-production Amati "Subscription" thing.

There was a paper template. that was laid over the ship prior to installing the Deck veneer.

I am finding it almost impossible to find the pencil "Tick" marks.

It is my understanding that the Amati Production version has marks on the Deck veneer.

So, the best that I can do at this stage is to use my Dividers....

(The Template is long gone....)

Harry, hope you have a small powered drill. Doing it with just a pin vice may be excruciating.

  • 2 months later...

Hi All,.

It's been a while since I last posted but time for an update....

Main Deck perimeter Railing complete.

I procrastinated for quite some time about this.

Supplied Stanchions used eventually and the  dreaded Mono-Filament material.

As much as I tried to thread Stanchions, (After a few test-fitted), it was almost impossible!! I had a breath and decided to dill out all of the Stanchion holes with a 0.3mm drill, I had pre painted these also.

So, I don't know if the Amati production kit has holes of greater than 0.3mm. Rod, (rvchima), threaded his Stanchions in-situ with no issues, he said the task was easy. (That was the inference anyway.)

I decided to drill all the holes around the Deck with a default of 9.5mm, there were a few exceptions.

So 62 to Midships and 66 to the Stern, the Stanchions were threaded on to the Mono-Filament, three threads, top, middle bottom and then plugged into the holes drilled.

The join, Midships required a bit of fast thinking, I drilled out a couple of Stanchions to 0.45mm to accept the threads from the Bow and threads from the Stern sections of railing, a touch of CA an done. (I'll attach some photos of these.

It took some time but not as much time as trying to thread Stanchions in-situ.

And yes, I received the Eduard PE Chain Link Railing, nice but not suitable for this beastie. 🙂

Not much left to do:

  • Paint Touch-ups
  • Stern Flagstaff
  • Anchor Buoys
  • Accommodation Ladders (Probably)

I should also mention that my good lady helped me in no small way with the Railing. (I still have limited use of my right arm.... ☹️

Cheers....HOF.

Thanks Gentlemen,

Appreciated. 🙂

Ian, have a look at the Stanchions that you were provided and "Guage" the holes. My Stanchion holes were 0.3mm, 0.4mm would be better.

I'm thinking the "Prod" version may have a larger hole to facilitate threading the awful Mono-Filament stuff.

Even so, it was beyond me how you'd thread the Stanchions in-situ, 1: With ought kinking the stuff, drawing it through and 2: If the Stanchions holes are not in-line, the thread won't go through either.

My Stanchion spacing was not to the kit specs either, there should have been about 146 on either side, mine ended up 135 inc. the Boe in front of the Hawse holes.

Another issue I had, was painting my Stanchions thus having to drill out all the Stanchion holes. 🙂

@rvchima, (Rod), advised that he Blackened his Stanchions, very wise!! You could always PM Rod for extra insight here.

All in all, the Railing helps immensely to just "Finish" things nicely.

(I still dislike immensely the Mono-Filament stuff provided, it did eventually have a use.... 🙂)

Cheers and Regards,

Harry.
