I used full length planks the first time, I don't regret it but I would do it more historically accurate next time. The shorter plank lengths may even be easier to work with. Since I’m not familiar with your particular model, I can’t suggest a pattern but typically a 3 or 4 shift pattern is good to work with. For LN I’d advise you just do a full length plank. A shift butt pattern on so small a hull would be aggravation you don’t need first time around. You can see my Cheerful build to see one, but on my LN I just did full run for the reason I note. My advice anyway. If so maybe count how many planks you need to cover that distance (probably at the stern?) and see if you can get closely colored planks for that section. Assuming you paint the rest white it doesn’t matter after that. I wouldn’t get too hung up on it though, it’ll look good regardless. It gives much sharper edges than sandpaper, and much better control than a knife. Knifes tend to follow the grain of the wood. I hold the plane in one hand, and drag the plank with the other. I recently learned a new trick, place the plane in a wise. Then you can use both hands to control the plank. Especially useful for bevelling. I got done and could see daylight in a couple spots, nothing major, but that's not the tight fit we all strive for. Glued the 3rd and 4th plank using the prebend and CA. Now we're cooking with oil! 😀 However, as I look at the bottom of the 4th plank... am I going to have to chamfer an edge of the next plank or will the Chuck bending" take care of a gap? I see a gap coming with out chamfer. Something that can be sanded out? Also have one Garboard plank in next to the keel. Should I put in a second, before laying out for the planking? It will be much harder now but you can still do if you’re careful and go slow. It’s a good idea to think these thinks out in advance. If you rush it you’re going to split the planking. Sometimes the instructions don't lay things out correctly for the build. I always look over the plans and make sure that I do anything I can to make a better finish easier. For example, on my Bounty build I getting ready to install the Mizzen pin rails around where the mast goes... I noticed on the plans that there are 13 pins and 10 double blocks that go around the mast into the deck. If I put the rails in first it may make it much more difficult to do those blocks! The plans show (4) 1 X 4s on the inside of the bullworks. As you can see by the picture, I have a sliver of inner bullworks not covered (which I’m going to have to do). Is this normal? Did I possibly boo-boo putting the false deck on?
