Hello MSW,

as it is tradition and good etiquette, here is my Member Introduction. Even if I'm not posting or commenting a lot on the internet, I really enjoy reading the fine buildlogs and discussion on this side which is really helpful for my own endeavor and in general.

I'm from central Germany and build shipmodels together with my father in my younger days but that eventually ended with puberty if I recall correctly. In the last years I got the "itch" again but was never in the position time and money wise to get back into the hobby. This changed and last year I started a semi scratch build of German destroyer Z-20 "Karls Galster" in 1/200 with the aid of a epoxy hull from "Modellbau Lassek" from Germany (For those interested: http://www.modellbau-lassek.de/Neuheiten/Neuheiten-2019/GfK-Rumpf-Karl-Galster-1-200.html) and really old plans from Loefs Verlag.

Here is a photo of the hull with the aft superstructures from styrene:

For fittings I use various parts from Aeronaut, GPM and Veteran Models. Some needed extensive overhauling, e.g. the torpedoes:

And here with some color (background is only basic colors, front with wash and highlight:

And some lighting scratch build with GPM photo etch:

And with color:

I hope this is sufficient as a member introduction 🙂

Thank you for looking and happy modelbuilding!

Welcome to MSW, HWM.   Looks like an interesting project and not one that we've had before.   Do give some thought to doing a build log.  We'd love to see it.

I have to wrap my head around the question if this is scratch or kind of a kit bash build 🤔

Maybe you will find the answer in this topic

The answer that Baker linked to above addresses mainly wooden kits. In your case, you don't really have a kit, even though you are using some commercially available parts. Since you are essentially cobbling together a model from a variety of sources, I'd classify this as a scratch build, though plugging the phrase "semi-scratch" in the title would alert the reader to its true nature.

Welcome aboard!  Your username reminds me of a really poor joke I heard the other day:  Two robbers were robbing a liquor store when one robber grabs a bottle and asks the other robber "is this whiskey?"  The other says "yeah but not as whiskey as wobbing a bank".  Sorry!  😁
