She looks just terrific, Rich.  Don't fret the 'almost invisible' stuff.  You, and most of us, know it's 'there'.

WELL DONE, MATE!

I'm moving my shipyard from the back bedroom to the garage. I built a nice big 4' x 4' work table in the center 3' high since I work standing up. Still a lot of work to do before it's operational. My Admiral is very happy to get the bedroom back after two years of ship building

Looks like you've got plenty of room there Rich. Is it heated yet? I was going to ask also what your next project is, after the case of course. :)

Rich,

Getting caught up and finally able to look at the pictures on a real monitor instead of my cell phone. She looks great!. I am jealous, your work room, looks like there is room for two..........

Sam

I have to air condition it before summer, though.

When the President said, "You didn't build that!" I took offense since I had started several businesses. But when it comes to the USS Constitution I just finish......It's a correct statement....maybe my fingers and eyes put it together, but all of you who came to my rescue time and time again built it along with me.

The advise started when laying the keel when many of you told me to keep it dead straight and the bulkheads square....and the planking....endless help from bending tips to shaping and placing the planks....Then the decks....tree nail advise.. just like gun rigging...terrific suggestions...Basic miniature woodworking...you all to taught me how to get the right tools so I could make straight and square cuts....You suggested the correct glue after I screwed up using the wrong stuff for months....your help with the standing rigging allowed me to get it mostly right.....the running rigging....I was totally lost in space and you all bailed me out during the whole process.....and finally....because I knew you all were looking....I  tried never to cut corners or do sloppy work for I didn't like getting criticism. I can't tell you how many times I went back and did something over because you spotted an error or sloppy work......The best advise I got was one of you told me, "treat each piece you have to place as if it were its own model." So.... "You did so build it with me!"

Thank you.

Congrats Rich on finishing the Conny - nice job. I like your workshop. I've had a couple of those Hobart Workbenches and they work great for ship building. I currently use a 16" x 20" wood TV tray and 1/4 of a 54" dinette for my workbenches. What's next on the list???

Rich, beware, once you start down the dark path of power tools, forever will they influence your future!!!!

Sam

There were a few times I wished I had some power tools building the Connie. I'm not anywhere near heading down the dark path of scratch building. Maybe in my next life. Kits are hard enough!

While I agree that working with wood the way the old time artisans did it has it's romantic allure, I think that those of us with arthritic problems, look for easier and faster ways to accomplish jobs, with less and less manual labor, to minimize painful movements. Hence power tool popularity.

George, I have either arthritis in my left hip or sciatica, the Dr's can't agree. Either way, if the pain I get in my hip/leg is anything like your arthritis I don't blame you one bit for finding faster and easier methods. Besides, whatever gets you the results you are looking for is what really matters.
