I started the project in the middle of another one and due to limited space I wanted to not have sandpapering and etc for a while.
The kit is excellent and very cheap to start with paper models although not the easiest perhaps.

In the photo below, the first 26 steps have been completed.

In step 27 the mast base and radar platform was cut and glued in place.

Next the anchors and breakwater was cut and glued in place.

Finally for today I prepared and double glued the pieces for the steps 32-23. To keep them straight I placed them under a heavy 2" angle plate.

If you'll look at post #5 in this thread, I discuss a technique I use to help straighten out the seams between deck structures and the deck, or between the structure and its roof.

I have built four of David's designs. Each is a little jewel (although some are by no means 'little').

Hi John,

Nice to see another Paper Shipwright card model on the go, I'm a few weeks into one as well. Yours is looking very nice.  Chris is our resident Card Ninja ⚔️ loads of good tips to be stolen and miserably implemented on my part at least!  For instance look at the steering wheel on the thread he has linked 😱  I have just tried that this evening and my wheel looks like a Daisy some kid has been plucking the petals from! :default_wallbash:

Looking forward to seeing your "Voyager" progress. 😁

I used a punching tool for cutting the circular shapes.

I also preferred to cut from a metal pipe for these tubes.

Here are all the parts for the assembly of net winch

and the final result. I'm sure I made some mistakes in the assembly instead. I hope David will forgive me!

Next i decide to paint the edges as  the place where they will be placed does not allow them to be painted afterwards. I will paint the edges of the rest of the ship at a later stage.

All construction stages completed. I also added some extra details although some of them are arbitrary.

Good work! She looks the part of a research vessel. It looks like you made use of generic 1/250 railings? From JSC perhaps? They're a nice touch.

Cheers!

Thank you Chris, the railings is from HMV.

I can't imagine the skills needed to produce results like that in card - I definitely could never replicate them. 😄

I am currently working on paper/card ship.  I can only dream of being able to achieve your level of perfection.

Thank you Papa for your kind words. The good thing about this hobby is that there will always be room for each of us to improve. 🙂
