I was wondering how much work you’d get accomplished being in the museum working on this model.

You have become an entity and can answer questions for visitors.

Work achieved varies enormously, Jerome. On quiet days it can be almost like working at home, but in school holidays you spend the entire day talking to people. I make up for it by doing some of the work at home so that this model can continue to progress.

John - If you don't manage to get it finished can I suggest one of your colleagues be commissioned incorporate in a diorama of you building it. Preserved for posterity in a glass cabinet in your favourite museum, what more could you desire - and you wouldn't even have to speak to the punters.  🙂

Hi Roger.  I have some broaches (not just triangular as some have five sides) but they are all tapered.  Does your set have a constant size so that they can also act a reamers to achieve a very accurate size?

We continue to progress. The spanker mast now has shrouds and a forestay, and you will see that there in now bagged cargo in number 5 hatchway. I've also now completey removed the top rail around the long poop deck in preparation for the future installation of a polished wood railing.

I just found this and will be following along keenly.

When I saw the first pics I thought "I don't remember that model at the museum" now I understand why.

I think I'd much rather build from scratch than alter and complete someone elses project but it must be done and you'll do it beautifully.

Thanks, Keith. The 'Meteor' is unfortunately languishing beside my bench at the moment as I'm using what time I have at home to work on repairs to the 'Duchess'.

 

Bedford, it is certainly difficult to bypass parts of the model that I think could be done differently, but if they are correct and presentable I'm leaving them where they are. There are some items that need to be re-built or corrected as they are just wrong for the ship at the period of the model build, but I'm keeping them to a minimum. On the other hand, I'm really enjoying working on the 'Duchess' and would never have started a model of her myself, so it's a good project.
