Two days later and progress has been made. It goes to show how support from you wonderful followers spurs me on.

I worked on the cabin side windows. (No, they are not the ten commandments!)

Y12.JPG.509a863f3c1e9c42359c9a644953af18.JPG

Added the wales on the side and the gunwales. This was a difficult task as things weren't adding up.  🤔

Y13.thumb.JPG.90019bf0e80cec9ee5c1f4b52dba6571.JPG

I worked out the waterline and then did the basic painting

(minus the frilly bits which depend on the canon porthole locations).

Y15.thumb.JPG.be3b157048f4c4ec35eb5323b6081b6b.JPG

With the help of a few bull ants, I even 'nailed down' the decking. 😉🐜

Y16.thumb.JPG.5cb49ebb1bf430ff733b8428df3b9589.JPG

I think the next job will be to add the items on the deck.

Cheers,

Greetings all,

1/200 scale scratch build and I'm still going. Nothing has been impossible ... yet! 🤞

This weekend I made, painted and weather:

the central cabin,

Y17.thumb.JPG.027be907bb21ff7f08d19370ad481a10.JPG

eight tiny guns,

Y18.thumb.JPG.11b0950b957da6587ad4757c12961015.JPG

even glued and secured them onto the deck,

Y19.thumb.JPG.da81e7b7cb5af0be36df0bab023f251b.JPG

and after a day at the beach, I did some work on the bow,

including a bowsprit and pin rack. (The stain is still wet.)

Y21.thumb.JPG.190ab6b6208c00031c134efadf9642b2.JPG

Among other things, tomorrow I will do the capstan, fancy paintwork on the sides and more pin rails.

Thanks for following and giving your comments. Much appreciated!

One thought that carried over from my own build, which may be told too late at this point:

I guess, the rear-most guns were dummies. It was not uncommon for objects of the baroque era to look like.. more, essentially. Windows painted on a building's walls for symmetry, for example. This is also true for ships in general and royal yachts, specifically. Take the english Royal Yacht Mary II (built three to four years after the Golden Yacht) as an example.

Mary.png.35627aa02820315d27c5b6d6dac9d081.png

In this painting by Willem van der Velde you can see that she seems to have a broadside of 8 or 9 guns - but only three have a shadow (the three forward of the ratlines, although she's said to have four per side). That's because such yachts weren't really built for war, but for representation.

Your model shows it pretty clearly, the rear-most guns have almost no room for recoil. They'd crush the cabin, if they were fired. If I were to build the Golden Yacht again, I'd omit these two guns and install a pair of dummies instead - maybe even the first pair, too.

Don't tell anybody @Strelok, but the forward guns are dummies! I had to remove them in order to leave enough space for the capstan and other parts. Now I don't feel so bad about it.  🤭 Thanks!

What a day!

The deck is nearly finished.

Y22.thumb.JPG.4acb9e62be7e75280c6a978eb64b6d49.JPG

After further research, I changed the blue to a deep green on the hull.

I like it as it's 'verisimiltude' is better and it doesn't require an elaborate pattern. 😃

Ask @Louie da fly what it means!

Y24.thumb.JPG.7baa725e4cad0571b99890d6ea3530c0.JPG

That leaves tomorrow to finish the deck and start going UP! (all 90mm/3.5")

Cheers,

and just when you thought nothing else could fit in the bow,

I made and added the anchors. 🧐

And I know you are all waiting to see my mast and yards! Excited? (not likely)

Lee-boards in English. Used on Thames barges, Humber keels and other shallow-draft vessels. See #19.01 in the video below, and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeboard :dancetl6: (Many thanks to Liteflight for this video).

Thanks Steven @Louie da fly for setting me straight regarding the leeboards. As always, I take my hat off in appreciation of your shipping knowledge. Well done. Knowledge is wonderful. Now I know the Dutch and English names for "the boards on the outside" of my boat. 👏

The holidays are over so now I have to 'force myself' and get back to my modelling. 😃

Had a challenging day today working on my sails and starting the rigging.

I made the lines on the material using a grey Staedtler triplus fineliner.

The first attempt on the centre of the stained material was too heavy.

Y30.thumb.JPG.e6fe5c4441144ec5468388bbd24c98f3.JPG

I cut and applied a 'bias binding' to trim the edges (using super glue).

Y31.thumb.JPG.31d2bf5eb3151804d47fa55e6991a6d4.JPGY33.thumb.JPG.a35693f4fb3bf2482c3ba279bd591e40.JPGY32.thumb.JPG.9e4ed53f2469fd003006efc21124a669.JPG

Then the fun 'fiddly bit' started - RIGGING!

Nothing yet attached to any anchor points, but great progress was made. 😬

Greetings all,

I assume you had a great weekend. I know I had a busy one with my 1:200 model.

(Measurements are in millimeters not inches.)

Y36.thumb.JPG.d9d253c8699a771c8284626dc4a040c7.JPG

Did you notice that I added and rigged all the sails?

I also am very happy with the shrouds and ratlines. 😊

Next, I want to make and add a lantern, figurehead and flags.

That will probably be fiddly but fun. :dancetl6:

Thanks for all your support and encouragement.

G'day all!

Had an early start as I couldn't sleep thinking about the size of the blocks I used.

The top ones are just too big! 😝

Y38a.JPG.ec9b96c8f7490fa706275af2d304e1f7.JPG

So, I removed those that were out in the open.

The other blocks are reasonable in scale and are somewhat believable.

Y40.thumb.JPG.21f9bd4fe44d88ce702ac999dc5fe862.JPG

That's better! 😊

Then I made the lantern and figurehead.

Bloody small, but they came out well.

Y41.thumb.JPG.17653b45faa776743e19689df5a26c04.JPG

Y47.thumb.JPG.ebc0d79c0ba0f49e2372bbb21051d69b.JPG

Y49.thumb.JPG.d76c6931ebab2725c385b0dfd70fa315.JPG

The flags are also finished.

I used the iron on t-shirt transfer sheets from Officeworks.

Y52.thumb.JPG.f0c7ce50da6adb7901d30692c9732a44.JPG

Now I'm as good as finished except for the stand which should be a simple task to make.

Thanks for your support and encouragement throughout this build.

Cheers, Peter

Wow, your build is impressive! Look how small she is O.O

The only thing my inner Monk has to criticize is the colour of the flags.

The Brandenburgian flag that dates back to before the time of the personal union with Prussia is a red eagle on white ground and not a black eagle on yellow ground which looks more like Austria. But I understand that each build has some artistic freedom to it.

On the other hand having such colourful flags is quite fitting for a colourful ship like the Golden Yacht.
