Of the various methods of storing and organizing wood strips described in this forum, the one that would probably work best for me are the 2x2x24 inch mailing boxes.  Going online, I see that they are readily available, but only if you want to buy 50 of them for about $50. Far more than I need. Also looked at the UPS Store and similar outlets, without any luck. Has anyone found a source for maybe 10 of them, at a reasonable price?

I haven't been to the post office yet, but the USPS website shows maybe 2 dozen boxes they have available, and none of them are what I want.

Thanks for your suggestion Dziadeczek, but the space I have available is horizontal, not vertical.  Also, many of my wood strips are considerably shorter than others. My plan would be to cut off the lids, thereby opening up the entire length of the top of each box to facilitate finding what I want.

With Christmas just around the corner, the Admiral has been stocking up on wrapping paper.  (Truth be told, she does this all year long.) She buys the paper wrapped around paper tubes so the gift wrap doesn't have visible fold marks. Most of the tubes are over 24" long, come in various diameters and are easily cut to the length that you desire.  Since the tubes normally just end up in the recycle bins when the paper is used up anyway, why not repurpose them as storage tubes for your wood strips? Which makes them basically free!😁

Can't you make such boxes yourself? You could fashion them as open trays right away.

I don't know in what sizes cardboard is sold in the USA, but if there are sufficient lengths, one can cut strips of the desired width and assemble them with old-fashioned packaging tape (the one that needs to be wetted, not the self-adhesive one, which looses its tackiness over the years) or perhaps duct-tape.

I for myself made a wall-hanging rack with horizontal shelves, so that short pieces can be kept at the front. Not an ideal solution, but the wall above my machines was the only place I had and here in Europe all materials are sold in 1 m lengths.
