Spanish Galleon 1607 by kirill4 - FINISHED - Lee - 1:100 - PLASTIC

Recommended Posts

Michael,

This is very nice place for working and for making foto - this white box - good idea!!!

Today I hung the flag on the mizzen ...

now all the masts with flags! :)

Tomorrow I will be engaged with stern flag and later on banners - pennants ...

and 6 more flags on the deck)) need to be installed !

total there will be 10 pennants and 6 deck ...

ps
after flags pictures thermotransfering, each one need to be repainted by hand brush (acrylic) at least big colored area need to be threated - transfering film has some glossy effect and repainting solve this glossy on fabric

Good day Michael,

Yes , correct - this is iron transfer sheet, but as final coatiing I don't use varnish but artist acrylic paint of the same colors as main flags colors...

This additional coating iliminate some glossy after iron transfering...

stern flag - my improvisation in design and location .

flag s coat of arm used in Philipp II  reighn I found somewhere in the internet...

I saw on some of the galleon pictures , that stern flag staff locates not strait in the middle line and extreme aft, as it was in later times , but it is more close to the mizzen ...

pictures - just examples of flags and banners possible locations on galleon...

Greetings Dear Community! Returning to post number 183 - authentic pictures of galleons with flags on the deck ...

deck flags - for the images on the flags, I used some parts of the royal coat of arms of Philip II, the fastening of the flags was shown very conditionally ...

Good grief Kirill is it possible to add any more detail?, I'm beginning to believe  you don't want this build to end..hehe. Looks great!!, by the way I'm using your technique with the iron photo transfer, experimenting with canopy and the results look good, how did you accomplish the fringe on the banner along the bulwarks if you don't mind me asking?

Good day Michael!

Thanks for attention and remark!

*the fringe on the banner along the bulwarks -

-I clued the piece of thread on the piece of fabric(percal),

-than secured this piece on the table by double side scotch

-than under this clued thread I slowly removed horizontal lines one by one  using awl, leaving only vertical threads of the fabric...thus it became as fringe imitation...

than paint it red and gold - acrylic paint ...

did You use repaint picture after transfering it to the fabric?

I did due to there is remains some glossy after transfering...

Yesterday I purchased and try transfering paper for dark fabric - it is a little bit different in transfering technicue and copied picture not transparent as it was with previous paper...

this paper could be used for transfering picture to the very thin paper, but not on to the fabric ... I think it will make better results in imitation small folds of the flags or other fabrics on the model...

All The Best!!!

Kirill

Hi Kirill,

Thanks for the tip on producing the fringe and funny you mention the transfer paper for dark fabrics as I purchased some last night to try out, I'll post a picture of the canopy untouched after the transfer as it didn't look too glossy and the detail appears okay, but I still might go over it with some toned down gold paint and thread and of course I will need to paint the underside red.

Good day.

Michael,

Canopy looks very nice! :)

If You will paint it / red/gold - when paint gold, try to use two gold colors - dark and bright gold, it will give some visual relief imitation  to scrols on the canopy...

Good day Everybody,

Today I put the final touches and on this with the model - that's it !!! :

* added a crane beam on the tops of the fiting platforms - similar to the one depicted in the famous engraving of the karakka

* added darts - here, in their appearance, pure fantasy ... in fact, judging by the engravings - they were in great demand on galleons of the 16th century, and since I have a certain collective image of a galleon on the border of the 16th and 17th centuries,

I decided to add such for myself ...

as a source of information I also used the book "Sailing Ships of War", Dr. F. Howard

??? I will add hooks on the yards later ... maybe ... ...

Spaniard after all, it means boarding tactics of conducting a battle, in theory, they should be ...

and on engravings they are shown everywhere as a rule ... well, I don't know yet. ..

then it was left to come up with something with a stand, but this is next season, in the fall ...

the vacation ends soon, I will not have time to make a stand ...

Wish all of you all the best!

Kirill

Excellent tip - I would not have thought of that!

We are all works in progress, all of the time.

Kirill, it is all so brilliant and resourceful;  I love the way in which you made the spear tips, and all of the pendants and flags.  Your rig and spars and sails all have the patina of use and the super-realistic interplay between taught and slack lines.  As a talent, you truly are one in a million!

We are all works in progress, all of the time.

Marc, :)))

I see You noted my remarks regarding using of  two gold colors :)))

I mentioned this  after visited Hermitage museum a few days ago... of couse I try to see details which we could use later on in our models making, and I noted, artists, they use two gold colors when guildings decors in this famous palace...

Good day Tommy,

Sorry for delay with answer,

*I used sharp modeller knife for making very light thin line on the preliminary painted area( yellow)..., this line will serve as countur line for ornament, in this case - triangle...

* than using cappilar effect anf fine brush, I filled area along this line with liquid acrylic paint, red in this case... cutts will prevent red color crossing to yellow field area.

*to fill in remaining center area with red color...

This way all my" triangles "were painted... :)))
